I am looking at putting a Saginaw 605 power steering box in my 50 Olds 88. The attached picture is my original box. If someone has a 605 laying around and can get me the center to center of the bottom 2 bolt holes, and the c to c on the bottom left to the top bolt it would be very helpful. 2. I have one loose under the bench; I'll be back home Wednesday, can give you whatever measurements you need at that time.

The spacing on the 605 is the same as the 800 and the 525 which is 2 13/16 on the two lower holes and 4 7/16 between the lower and the upper holes.

Are you sure? I had a lot of people tell me that the 605 would bolt into a 50 olds and the holes would line up. But the 50 olds is 3.5" c to c on the bottom and 4" from bottom to top hole. 2 13/16 seems awful close together.

  8. @BJR, I was in St. Paul yesterday, for about an hour and a half, then took next flight to home.
The spacing that @Weedburner 40 posts is the same as what I get.
Maybe you can make up an adapter mounting plate, 1/2" thick, and mount with countersunk allen bolts, to mount to your frame. The 1/2" will give you clearance for the "bulge" of the 605 box

I put a 605 in a deuce cabriolet ch***is many years ago and I think I used a blank Vega plate and added the correct length bungs to the plate to make everything work? getting old so the details are sketchy. It was a challenge exhaust wise up front.

  11. Brian,
My 525 box arrived yesterday, and I concur with the dimensions. My plan to put it on one of my Buicks is to make an adapter plate with a rag joint between it and an early Chevy C10 column. I will share a pic of the plate once I fabricate it. The rough dimensions I get from the Buick box is pretty close to your Olds.

  12. ^^^^ I need to clarify my last post. Although the bolt mount dimensions are close to the Olds, they are reversed as the two mounts are at the top, and the single bolt at the bottom. The idea remains the same. The Borgeson boxes listed all have the mount face recessed in from the column shaft housing 1/2". My plan is to use a 1/4" plate 5" tall by 4-1/2" wide with 1/2" by 1" flat bar welded to it where the bolts go. My set-up is completely different as the original box only has the lower bolt going thru the frame, and the upper bolts thru a plate riveted to the frame.
The plate will have to be drilled and tapped to match the frame holes and bolted on after installing the box on the plate with countersunk bolts as @Algoma56 said. May be able to use one of the 3 holes with a thru bolt as original. If concerned the frame bolts may be too long and hit the box, you could use studs screwed into the adapter and plug welded, using nuts on the outside.
