Probably half clean up ok with a whole lotta scrubbing and steel wool, but I bet those 1/4's got quite a bit of rust in them. In that condition I think the hemi and the hardtop are the most valuable parts on it. Early birds are surprisingly cheap....compared to same year Vettes especially. We got ours for not much more than that as a pretty nice, rust free older restoration driver.

good deal. a complete 426 Hemi could easily sell for that price. what's the going rate on T-birds with no motor?

Wow....definitely some corrections going on there.
63 unrestored Split Window Fuelly for less that 100 Grand.
My kinda car for driving around town or cruise night to see buddies, or to the lake on a sunny day.

Good drivers for much less than trying to restore them. That's for sure.
Maybe actual car guys will get to buy what they hoped for instead of the
non car guy financial speculators portfolios ( taking a $hit)

several times after looking at the run list and watching on tv waiting for a certain car (the Dave Stuckey built king of the mercs for one) only to have them skip over it for a commercial. I have live streamed on the computer ever since

Figured someone would buy it for the engine, then swap in something else and resell the T-bird. The Stewart Warner Hollywood dash panel is an odd fit.

This is exactly why I don’t watch auctions, man if I had a place to keep it…. Etc etc. I see theses deals and they torment me.

The first days of the bigger auctions there are usually deals that sneak thru. There are reasons.
The big money buyers may not be there yet. They expect the better quality cars to be run later in the week. Which is generally the case.
The seller may be new to the way auctions work and just got a space not realizing how timing affects price. It costs more for prime time spots as well.
The seller may have wanted the early number to free up money to buy something later.
The auction company guides you as to where they want the car. You "usually" can't put a Wednesday car in a Saturday auction.
Remember they are auction cars. They are there for a reason.

    I bet without the motor that's a 5k car

  15. Why not leave it alone and drive or better yet race it!

  16. I would’ve bought it just to drive it to a T-Bird purist meet up and knock them all right out of their starched white New Balances

  17. Hey Nick,

Do I have to buy Laura some "Starched White New Balances? LMAO!:p:D

I would have bought that car in a heartbeat. I would have then taken the Hemi out & looked for a 66 Charger (love fastbacks) with a clean body to put it in. Then would have put a nice SBC w/a 700 or 4l60e that I have laying around, then done what you wanted to do!

    God Bless

that would be fun if you could get it running, registered and driveable with minimal effort and minimal dollars.
even more fun would be to sell the T-Bird put the Hemi in my 1961 Dodge Dart Seneca 2-door post :)
reality would be sell the Hemi and T-bird separate, and sell the Hemi for big bucks to someone with a Hemi car and no Hemi.

It really depends on what year the engine is as to value and of course what location its being sold in. The VIN the engine was tied to is equally important. My brother's 1970 Hemi, with full rebuild of the short block, heads, carburetors, alternator, etc., and dynoed with all do***entation sold for $33.5k on BAT about 5 years ago. I'm not sure where the market has gone since then. Through help from other Mopar enthusiasts, I was able to find the car that my brother's engine was in from the factory. The fellow had restored the car and was using a crate engine and had no interest in buying the original engine. Little did he know what that original engine would have done for the value of his car......
