  1. Al.....[ gtnrkix here on HAMB]
Hope you dont mind me postin' pics of your shoebox coupe as it is "lowering itself" down here in Missouri!:D

Here are a few hilites and an update as of today.....

    I have it cut/welded /ground down/ as per your instruction-3" frt and 4" rear-

THEN I relieved the top skin and raised the front of rear glass back... UP 1-1/2" to improve the radius /Flow of roof skin into deck and Tulip panels.....

I see a lot of these cars overchopped and I constantnly hear how ya :) cant chop a 40 50 coupe..But anyways-here it is for the folks to take a peek ... they'll tell us if we FUCKED IT UP!

I generally try to share a little tech here on the HAMB although it seems lately all we hear about is where to meet the buddies to head to GOODGUYs in a billet starved caravan....:D

I thought there may be a few who care -who can glean something from our pics of your chop....

if the back window follows the body line and doesnt bubble out like i think it might, that will be the best coupe chop ive ever seen that wasnt hardtopped

    Wow.

    I love that chop.

I usually prefer the coupes to be hardtopped, but I will DEFINITELY make an exception for that one. The slightly tilted b-pillars give it a very "period" appearance. The hard work on the back glass really paid off. Great work...

having a business coupe shoebox (i got a '49 hiding undercover in my dads shop as my project for next year) is stressful in regards to..... it looks so bad ass done right w/o a chop.... but then you see the zz top guy hard top.... and now you see this..... looks nice.

chop or not to chop. that is the question. the interesting challenge is that not many business coupe chops look right. your answer is looking pretty damn nice....

Very nice, good job Kenny, I care also. I love seeing pics of any chop and the way people do the same car in their own way. I just picked up a 49 coupe and was thinking gasser because I usually think coupes look like shit chopped, but that looks just right. Lets see some of your brothers project I'm real interested in it.

    Hey,

It's good to hear that " the bastards" didn't kill Kenny, afterall!
Great line through that roof, not something ya see everyday,
and the "kitty hair" is an interesting touch. It, the kitty hair, must
    save some time welding, no?

  26. Scott....
I know what you mean....there is always a line that if crossed- the pendulum swings the other way....

I think if overchopped or if the rear glass is leaned too steep resulting in conflicting angles- it ruins any chop...It is supposed to IMPROVE it's looks, right?

I catch myself at this imaginary"line" on my own stuff [sometimes], but on a customers car you must do what the job is- and abide by the ideas and tastes of him [the owner and you combined]:) ...with AL he was on the right page here -all I had to do was perform the task.
I will say this- if you notice -I did not add any length to the roof skin....not below the glass NOR above....[A coupe 49 or 50 cant benefit from that.]

It actually stays connected ...all the total length/width ABOVE the rear glass/and is not even cut apart in the middle.

It also is -not- "notched" at the top or bottom of the windshield posts either.....this is just a matter of planning and execution as opposed to rushing in with a saw and regrettin' it later.....
[dont ask how I know that]:D

    FRIZBY......
Scarliner.....[Reg],My Lil Brother is kinda like a James Bond type spy... ya dont get a lot of info from his garage unless he is allowing the "mission";) to be exposed....!!! [:D mission impossible -pulled off at last]
It will be his job to re;lease any pics of the supersecret prototype....

  27. Hi -Pimpin'..
I always use the stranded filler as a skim over the welds....it will save you if you have a thin area -say when grinding the welds flush.....It can stand vibration and is waterproof as well...it is not thick....I typically use a quart of filler total on a top like this....[before sanding....
I see a lot of :D all-metal finishers here on the HAMB....most do not chop any rounded tops....Ha!
