A good expression of your viewpoint, thanks. A child of the times. It sound like you know, or I missed, the history of the car ("It is exactly the way it was minus a few small details")? I'd like to see more photos-interior,engine etc.

I'm not that old, 53. But I do over study. I truly love seeing things that were the way kids did it in our perceived Golden Era. Rarely are they as "Golden" as the folks today do it or claim them to be with a few very notable exceptions. Stuff today on the main is just built/constructed better. Technology and standards dictate this. Back in the day they were a lot less expensive and certainly easier to come by labor as well. Today a Five Window pile of crust is wildly more expensive versus a cream puff cast off from back then.

No One today would cut a battery into a '32 Cowl, but here it is from back in the day. OG if you will. I have no idea of the History other than what's available on line. I think we are also making many ***umptions. Here's a few of mine. The Tires don't count to start. But you've got an early 60's dash, C1 Vette covers, '46 Pickup Column with a Grant or Superior Wheel, Three Pedals, and a Hurst Shifter, Single Stage Red Paint, all wrapped in a heavily channeled '32 Five Winder. You wind up with a bit of a mix which looks like it had received some updates through the years. So a Relevant Time Capsule with a few updates and many original aspects still in place. I tried really hard to not like this. But in the end much like Quasimoto the good just shines through.

Would I need to re-arrange the Frame to body relationship - Yes. Would I get rid of the Fenders - Yes. Would I have to absolutely remove that giant square wart from the p***enger side cowl top - Yes. Throw away or sell the Nerf Bars, Hood Sides, Tires, Vette Caps, Turn Signal plate, Grant Wheel, etc - Yes. But then it wouldn't be this Car. That would be a crime. So at this point you have to love it for what and when it is.

For what it's worth, my '40 Vert has some of the most garish and ridiculous blue pinstripes ever laid in direct defiance of cool. But they are signed - "Famous Pinstriper '76". I too am stuck with the challenge of what I think it really needs (in this case removal) versus the way it really was. I'm not good at deceit or faking the truth about the true story of the car, so the stripes stay. Just seems more honest and transparent that way, and it is true to form.

After all the Golden Era of Period Correct is a relatively new concept invented by folks who weren't even a glint of said gold at that time. So our frame of reference is a bit skewed. We can all name the Top Ten influential cars of our mind. But there were thousands of "other efforts out there" and it looks like this survived the modern movements.

Thank you for letting me get the thoughts out,

    Tim

I like it, it’s definitely different, but cool. However, I think it was reworked in the mid 70’s. I find it hard to believe they would take the dash out of a brand new car as well as other parts.

They could have easily taken those 60’s parts from a wrecked Falcon when it was nearly new.

A 50’s East Coast build with what looks early to mid 60’s Falcon interior upgrades.
Old Hot Rod engineering/ art. Yep lil longer nose and cowl battery hump. Mid to late 50’s build. :)
*****in’ back in the day time capsule to me.

    I have no opinion. It's a '32* 'nuff said.
Interesting is, that only 3 answered with info, so far.
Me? warms my heart to see the lunch box latches Vette covers and nerf bars.
By the way, ever noticed that @nickthebandit can name everyone, on sight of their ride.:D:)

  10. Many people think the Hirohata Merc is the most beautiful custom of all time, I think it is god awful and **** ugly!

The taillights look like blisters hanging out in space, they don’t flow with the body they are just there to me they look like an after thought.

The same goes for the rear window. To me it doesn’t flow with the lines of the car. The bottom corner of the rear gl*** and moldings dip below the lines of the side gl***.

For me there is nothing appealing about it.

Does that mean if I had the money I would buy it and change everything about it?

No, because I respect it for what it is, and also because I find it ugly I would never want to own it!

I don’t understand buying and old hot rod, custom or race car just to competency change it!

That is like buying a finished painting, taking paint thinner to it removing painting just because you wanted a canvas.

There are very few cars I don't like and appreciate the idea, thought, creativity, history...... art of that time.
What an ERA from the 30's to mid 60's automotive history.
It was a new path.....new designs, new technology, new imagination.
    It's the reason I'm here.

  16. Most guys *****in about this bad*** car probably have a van column, A/C and an automatic trans in their hot (street) rod, haha.
Its bad***. Maybe just maybe needs a few little things tidied up but that its.
I'd swap wheels and tires to my flavor, put a small battery in it and fab a flush lid, center up the rear diff and beat on it everydangday.

Too bad this thread about the quest for information or background on this ‘32 devolves into forum for personal dislikes.

Sorry grandma, but.... Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I kind of implied that the car did not appeal to me. That does not mean that one can not be interested in it. That does not mean that one can not celebrate the fact that it has survived. That does not mean that one does not understand that these cars were not built to a formula. That does not mean that one does not understand the time period that the car came from. However, in the end, the car is ugly.

Beauty is in the eye of the BEER HOLDER! - Ugly is subjective and based on personal feelings, tastes, and opinions, rather than objective, universal facts. HRP

I'm thinking that the original version of that coupe was in one of the little rod magazines I bought way back in the 50's or 60's It misses the "east coast look" with the front axle though as the majority of East coast early rods had 40 or so Ford front axle and suspension under them setting the axle back a few inches from stock.

  23. People like us view this as a lifestyle, we want to preserve, and recreate history.

However of late many people have become interested/involved in period correct hot rods, customs, and race cars not because of their love of them or a deep emotional attachment to the era, but rather because it is hip and trendy.

Others see it as a way to make money it is not an all consuming p***ion for them.

Almost everything I do to the people I ***ociate with and my girl a 64 Thunderbird (she does all her own work!) revolves around my love of p***ion for period correct hot rods and vintage racing!

My mom and dad who celebrated their 51 wedding anniversary in November met because he was working and the same Chevrolet deal as her father and brother!

If it wasn’t for cars I wouldn’t exist!
