Gotta remember, this is a hot rod site and being original is not sacred, The OP ask about colors not restoration.

I've left the insert alone a few times. HRP

I thought that he has an original deuce grille - just happy for him to be using it on his hot rod and not using it as a wall hanger where so many other grilles spend their days…………..:D

( he can always swap it back if he doesn’t like it ).

    Did someone want original?
FYI, Color matched to an original insert per the experts on the FordBarn
Sea Gull Grey per Ford archives, with French Grey listed as a pin stripe color

This is my 32 grille shell and insert as I got it with my old sedan.
Appears to have flaking, but original, factory grey paint on the slats.
    Obviously, shell has been filled.

I'm with "hotrodA" for Sea Gull Gray. Best color for the insert with darker body color like his . Best match I found in a more recent Ford color that my paint shop could mix, Dove Gray. Formula included in photo. 32 grille insert.jpg 32 grille insert.jpg 32 front.jpg

  7. On the colored or Polished thing really depends on the build. Some cars look spectacular with the grill gleaming and polished. Others a painted insert ties everything together. And both ways are traditional

  8. Any pics of said pickup?

I have to admit that looks great, but I'm leaning towards doing this:

  11. Id lean towards a black insert on that unless it had chrome nerf bars on rear or something

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. The shell will be blue, so I think a black insert will tie things together the best. Probably remove the fog lights too (which I haven't wired up yet so not even functional at this point).

That's cool, thanks for sharing. I kinda hoped to get lot's of photos in the thread for the next guy looking for ideas to be able to find them here.

I wonder how zinc plating would look ?. It’s not expensive and not too flashy. We had an off shore insert ,initially looked great, until the elcheapo bars went rusty.
