Thanks! I think they work out perfectly. I can’t wait to get them mounted! But I am treading lightly with the wife right now. I pushed her, to let me get these tires before I had all the money. I convinced her how they’re always out of stock and not made for like six months at a time! Yada yada… so I have to wait a little bit before I can Get them mounted and balanced! She’s like “your tires that are on there now are perfectly fine. They’re not going anywhere!” Oh well, what are you gonna do… got make her happy once in a while! I was even thinking well maybe I could pull them off the rims while they’re bolted to the car… And push the other ones on… But I’ll probably screw up the rims, so I have to be patient and wait!
I love the look of them and I’m aligned with your thoughts on how they will look and match the front more. They are going to look awesome!!!!!! Can’t help you with the wife, I’m single and can do whatever I want whenever I want and I really like it like this. Good luck!!!!
Thanks! I was looking at the diamondback 560 front tires, but I don’t really like the looks of them compared to the Firestones. I think the tread is too wide for the size of the tire, so I think with the front being closer together on the pattern and then the back ones because they’re completely bigger have a little bit wider tread, they it’ll be in proportion to the look I’m going for if that makes sense? Wish they had a little more siping like the Firestones but that’s OK
Some actually do...unfortunately I found one...You are right she was oblivious to me. She was turning left. Pulled out fast then Stopped in curb lane fooled me then pulled in front of me JUST before I p***ed...boom......I am in the process of arranging repair, she was charged...Hagerty is being a little questionable but I will get it resolved...I'm in physio but we both were physically fortunate.
That is TBD...Hagerty ***essment said he doesn't THINK it is...think isn't a measurement...we will see but I want it repaired...I had to mention the wishbone punched back to shear...after he mentioned the frame being likely unbent. He then said oh I didn't see that. I'm not making this up and no I wasn't impressed.
I found a way to help with the "car parts" and the family budget. I have what is called by my wife as THE CAR ACCOUNT. I use caps because when she talks about the money in and out it is usually in an exaggerated voice....seriously, putting incoming car money and outgoing car money has eliminated issues. Yes, sometimes it gets pretty dry and I miss an opportunity but it eliminated many "distractions"!
Ouch! At least nobody was hurt, but it still ****s. Hopefully the damage is minimal and you can get it repaired fairly easily.
Actually, we do have a separate account, but it’s for both of us each. It’s called our “Fun” money accounts. Of course mine is always empty and she hordes hers so she’s always got money!!! So I told her we need to update it a little bit because car parts are expensive!! So she says well, I get to raise mine also then!!! Yeah, but right now I got a year and a half left of work and then we’re gonna move to another state so we have to sell a house. Look for another house. Pay movers all those things! So once I’m retired and settled in a new place, I’ll probably do side jobs and fabrication things for fun and extra money
So… Back to the 33! Since I got sidetracked with Stogys accidents, Man that ****s!!! But at least the sport coupe looks like it’s easily rebuildable? …. Anyway, so I’ve been driving the 33. I don’t know a couple years now? And I always was wondering why my rear suspension was so stiff after I redesigned it more close to Henry’s original style. I felt that the shocks might be bottoming out, but then I just kind of wrote it off. Until I took some people for a ride and it started bouncing, and hitting really hard. So finally got around to pulling the lower shock bolt. Soon as I did it dropped down another 4- 6 inches, So I’m like yep! That’s It! So luckily, I had extra holes on the top crossmember, and extra hole in the lower mount, and that gave me an extra 2-3 inches of travel. What a difference.!!!! Now I need to get the lower shock mounts for the front axle that go On the bottom of the perch bolts. Instead of straight through the axle like I have it now, And that will give me an extra 2 inches in the front of travel! I tried to simulate that whole ride height thing you’re supposed to do, but I just never could get it right till the actual car was built and being driven at least now it’s easy!!! Oh well, live and learn! Been too busy driving and having fun!!! DUH!!! Der, Doy!!!!
I had extra holes in the back and adjusted the shock 1 hole down and think it made a difference too. If your using the perch mounted shock mount note the perch stud length. I think mine were stock. I discovered that when I noted they had moved/rotated. The perch stud has thread in nut which worked but I believe it should be several threads out. Some are key-wayed too so they can't rotate...mine weren't. I loosened repositioned and tightened them and they still moved but I left them. Since the car is in need of extensive frontal work there'll be new extended stud perches going in made for those mounts this time around. I was worried torquing up the old ones being the stud wasn't through the nuts...from looking at threads on those perchs they weld themselves in there so tight you don't need nuts but you sure need them for the perch mounts...
Yeah, the perch bolts I have in there now were the long ones that were keyed. I bought them from Speedway with new eyes, but I wasn’t using lower mounts at the time so I cut them short! darn it!!! Now I’ll have to buy new ones and try to figure out how to get them out without the spring being all springy!
^^^^ If those lower mounts are from Speedway; we found that the pin one of the ones we used on my friend's '33 didn't come straight out from the axle. Of course we didn't notice it until we were putting the shocks on and the mounts had already made a trip to the chrome shop. A little heat and another dip in the chrome tanks and it worked as intended. Didn't like the aftermarket up mounts worked out, so I made a set to suit ride height of the sedan. Sometimes I wonder about those 1-800 parts.
So did you say the bolt was bent? I had to shorten my upper mounts because the angle it was at all this time all these years it was hitting the tie rod on the hairpin! so now I need to extend it a little bit down on the lower end and get the correct shock. I thought about shortening the hair pin at the time, but figured it would be harder to steer.
Yes one was not straight. When the shocks were slid on the lower mounts; one shock was not parallel with axle and was about 3" or so forward at the top; put a lot strain on lower bushing to force the shock back in line. Took the mounts off and the pin on the one was tipped down. Bolted it to the table, put some bushings on to protect the thread, and heated and bent it match the "good" one. Bolted them on and the angle was right. Found the aftermarket shock mounts were too short and shocks were too close to fully collapsed. Made the new mounts taller to put the shocks in proper working range. This was with a stock '33 crossmember and a Posies low spring with the top short leaf removed.
Oh, I see. It was binding big time. I have just accepted these parts nowadays are usually gonna need some kind of tweaking. For the most part, I have made most of them work! No excuse for these manufacturers, But it is what is. Luckily I am just painting everything. I think it was 2500-4000$ just to Re chrome my original grille. So I got the finest steel wool and meguiers wire wheel cleaner and made it look good from 10ft!
Wow, I didn’t realize how fat those other ones were now that they’re off! But the height difference is not too much when you stack them on top of each other cause you have to go by the all-around diameter The diamondback Auburn’s 1015 are supposed to have 7 to 10 inch rims so it should be fine! once we get that proper bias Ply bulge happening ! So hopefully Wednesday, I’ll get them mounted on the rims! I think it’ll tuck in the fender’s a little bit better still gonna stick out but it’ll look more proper! Getting excited!!! I know I’m a goober!!!
