Nice! And I bet your hands weren’t sore like mine were when you were done forming the flair. And seeing your welding fixture, I guess I’ll just have plaigerize you again and make the change back to the original style of bolt boss. Will you be welding, tig brazing, or silver brazing them to the tubes?

 

I am going to try small tig tacks using Solar Flux on the inside.

 

They all look great! Job well done!

 

Got the stacks mounted, still need to grind a flat on the flares, where they meet. Very happy with the stack length, through the hood.

 

I tried to machine in the flat spots on mine but ended up just belt sanding them. I got them straight but got them a little wider then I wanted.

 

I sheared a strip of aluminum, punched a couple 3/16 holes, bolted each stack to it, as a guide to grind the flats on the flares. Pretty happy with the results. Pipes will be built in a couple days, then it's back to Chris Kopp to finish the body for GNRS !

 

Yours look so much prettier than the ones I made, Marty! Guess I’ll just have to copy your procedure and try again…

 

Another good job and much better job on the flats then mine. Maybe I will remake mine.

394 Olds. It's a fresh engine but a collection of parts right now. It may go in my 34 chopped pick up.

 

Those stacks are absolutely beautiful! Amazing work sir.

 

Got pipes, we will trim to length when the body is on.

I had some great help today, David Moon and his son Rustin supplied some very needed ***istance, we were able to wrap up my part of the Top Banana, and get it delivered Chris Kopp Metalworks. They also helped me unload all of the sheets of grained aluminum that will line the Grumman box on the COE. We also set the body on the '29 Roadster Pickup. A very fun day, and great progress ! Thanks boys !

 

Hey, there’s no snow on the ground! And it’s January! No fair!

 

This is from a previous year, but the pile of snow is out there already this year…at least the driveway is clear now

 

Wow, Dave what did you do with all that garden soil? did not know you has a green thumb!

 

It’s spread where the snow pile always ends up. And 5 times that in wood chips. Filling in the low spot and smothering the poison ivy. The stand of trees is gone too. The neighbor has had a wildflower garden planted on her part, and I want the flowers to spread into my side over time.

Great stuff as usual Marty! Tube forming is kinda fun isn’t it? I’ve used the hitch ball and tank cover tricks many times over the years. Working at Hedman years ago I had access to their dies, stretching, squashing and beading machines, it was fun to figure out how to make certain shapes. These days It’s a challenge doing it with the stuff we have in our everyday shops.
Both cars are looking great!

 

I have that picture, complete with the snow plowed into the driveway by the child of illegitimate parents who drove the plow several times that winter in Michigan. The only real difference between my driveway and yours is mine was much, much longer.

 

I had my late Buddy Ernie Martin's sign stand, that I made for him 25 years ago. Decided to use it at GNRS, very happy with the sign, two sided with a different picture on each.

 

We made it.

We are going to run it this year and make sure it won’t require any modifications, then paint it next Winter.
