A few years ago I finished building a FED dragster that hit my goal of a mid to late 60's look. I love building things and I'm thinking a T Altered (think Kay Sissell) would be a fun project to build and bracket race. I have a wanted ad in the cl***ified for a pair of 12 spoke spindle mounts but a pair of them might prove to be more expensive than how deep I care to dig into my wallet. So....what other style front wheels would have been used and/or popular for an altered? I've done some searching but I'm not unearthing much other than 12 spokes. Maybe my search just doesn't have the key wording to bring up alternatives. Thanks, in advance. Lynn

bowie.....Those spindle mount 5 spoke wheels were made by ET Wheels, weren't they? Were there others that made a similar wheel? I looked for new ones from ET and it appears they still make them ($1100 Ea.) but only for Ford and Anglia spindles. Thanks
Hello, In looking at the top Altered Coupes during the 1964-65 results, two of the best were from So Cal. The other sedan was from northern California and at one time had one SBC motor. Then a few months later, had a dual SBC inline motor set up in the same Altered Sedan to set more records. By the late 60s, this cl*** was gone, as well as the Gas Coupe/Sedan Cl***, the Street Roadster Cl*** and even the Modified Roadster Cl***. The drag race cars were still around, but the cl***es were virtually eliminated due to time and costs, so drag racing turned into a funny car /top fuel dragster show. So, those Altereds included, were now relegated to match races if any and exhibition runs. Here are the three record setting altered race cars in the 1964-65 time period: Northern California: Davis and Ingram Fiat Southern California: Dunn, Merritt, Velasco, Reath Automotive Ratican, Jackson, Stearns + Reath Automotive 1961 shortened ch***is The young team of Ratican, Jackson and Stearns winning the Nationals at Indy in 1961. Jnaki The other Altered Sedan was from Ray Callejo in Northern California. I wrote a short story about the unusual Altered Sedan, a mild build, sponsored by Clay Smith Cams from Long Beach. Clay Smith Cams located in the Westside of Long Beach. For an Altered Model A Sedans from drag racing’s past: If you have access to the June 1961 Hot Rod Magazine or October Car Craft Magazine, there may be color photographs and information on the tire/rim sizes. It is one good looking/proportionately designed Model A sedan. Which could be used as a model for drag racing coupe proportions or set up for a good looking old hot rod stance. Old Friday Art: Ray Callejo had/has a well rounded background in hot rods and drag racing. He was at the Fremont Dragstrip with his 1931 Model A Sedan and a 283 C.I. SBC that ran in the B/Altered cl***. This was the Altered Coupe and Sedan Cl*** many years before they dropped the designation and included Altered Roadsters. The old designation of BA-7 is no longer correct and should have read A/A-7. (with 584 c.i.) The Model A Sedan with the twin 292 SBC motors was featured in Car Craft and Hot Rod Magazines back in the early 1960s. It has been a long time. So, where is it, today?
