Just wonderin' what happened to George's hot rods, I know he had a bunch of real nice cars. Anybody know anything?
From what I gathered / remember, the family kept a few, a few more went to museums, especially the land speed cars and others that were "historically significant". The rest were auctioned, I think primarily through Me***.
There is a guy named Chuck in Yucaipa,Ca that has a full fendered 32 Coupe he says was George's. Sorry no pics.
He apparently knew the end way near. He liquidated just about everything before he p***ed from what I gather. I talked to him at a bunch of car shows over 20 years or so. Car shows haven't been the same.
I believe the newest Speed Demon was wrecked at Bonneville last August. Don't know if it has a future. The older versions are at Speedway in Lincoln, as noted above.
The one that was crashed was a brand new car (not driven by George). I don't know if he set them up with an endowment for the team or not. I hope that crash wasn't the end of the Speed Demon team.
