Now that you mention it, there does seem to be a theme.:(

I too don’t know anything about body swapping a falcon but I damn sure know you aren’t doing it in a week. That is a fact based on building real cars.

  3. I wrote out a long winded reply with logic and math but the more I wrote and ****yzed what you were doing, the more I felt like I was talking to myself. I’ve also had crazy ideas similar to what your are trying to accomplish, so I can sympathize. But thus far I (thankfully)haven’t the spare money OR time to do the whole “spend a dollar to save a dime” thing. What your are proposing as a means of saving money, is a farce. As a means of enjoying your hobby, its great.

You say you have a Geo Metro…you should drive that. That’s what I do to support my hot rod hobby.

Reading this brings to mind the old saying, The one thing stupider than doing something stupid is to tell others you've done it! o_O

I can tell you what I have done over the last few years, my daily driver gets + or - 15 mpg and would burn 25 gallons in a week when I first retired. I still felt the need to go every day and raising my grandson didn’t help save gas and still doesn’t. But after ten years I have learned to plan my trips, I live ten miles from town, and do my work at home or local, plan all my trips to town and pick up parts, make all my stops to talk with my friends and get groceries etc.. The result is that I rarely use a full tank of gas in a month while still getting 15 mpg. It’s more about driving smarter with what you have than spending to save money because I have thought about buying a more efficient car summer and fair winter weather but you can buy a lot of fuel with the money you would spend on a vehicle and insurance to put it on the road.

I picked up the $100 62 Falcon 4 door. Rust Free car, just missing some parts: grill bumpers instrument cluster, door cards, not a big issue for me.
The good news it has a complete 144ci drivetrain in it!
Took some time to plan some body mods:

Then a reason I have so many projects..A 97 Rav4 comes up for sale, doesn't run, awd, best thing: registration is current till may. So fk the dmv and their $800 fee, I just bought a whole rav4 with lots of new parts, and current reg for $600. Convinced wife to loan me the cash.
So now I have to find out what is wrong with the rav4 and fix it, then I can drive it while I work on the Falcon project, and once that's done, sell it pay my wife back, and get back to the Angry Echo, or probably the Willys Panel that is on an explorer ch***is:

I was concern an explorer would sit up too high, but some have been able to lower them pretty well, so if I the 144 is junk and I still go the explorer ch***is, can get it to sit pretty low is looking possible. Oh also, nobody spotted my error that a falcon has a 109in wheelbase, not 102, so it's only 2in shorter than a 111in explorer. Can make that up in wheelwell opening since for sure it will have to opened up to accept the 17in mustang wheels.

My Geo Metro has no drivetrain. The previous owner bought it to use the drivetrain for a sawmill. I'd have to smog it to put anything in unless....its an EV, and that is the plan for it. an EV racecar, autocross initially.

I'm not saying all this can't be done. I am saying that with the cost to have a running, driving, safe, registered and insured car before a single penny is spent on gas and maintenance being outside your budget, you gotta focus on a single Basic Transportation Unit (BTU) before you spend time and money on dream projects.
