Hot Rods Big Daddy's 55 2 door wagon gasser

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Lloyd's paint & glass, Jul 1, 2024.

  1. Got to learn to not take a mouth full of coffee before reading certain peoples posts!:D Somebody calling "Stubby" PRETTY is definitely a first LMAO....Perhaps gl***es are in your future Brother.

I have to admit the post about a new engine threw me for a loop though. Up until that point I was still pretty confident. Now we will all see if I have a modi*** of self-control or not. My problem is that I have a legit fast car, it is not Stubby. Unfortunately it is OT & also been spread all over the shop for decades. Since I was born good looking & not rich, I have to try to limit how much more I do to Stubby or I will never get my original car back on the road.....SO I guess I will have to find a way to CHEAT!:p

  3. That's awesome brother! Lmao! Nah, I have a noise. Thinking wrist pin. But it's not getting any better, so the engine i was building for my falcon is now the engine going in my wagon. But it's hard to beat half a car with a station wagon if you know what i mean. You know daddy loves ya you ***y little **** :D

My grandma used to tell me the same lie. I was told I could be rich, good looking, or fast; pick one. Well I’m still hoping for fast since my first two choices weren’t available.

  6. Well that ****s about the wrist pin noise Brother!

They are one of those things that you never know about....Might hang in there for a long time or might grenade tomorrow. One thing is for sure, it will be less expensive to fix if you yank it now. Always good to have an extra SBC laying around for the next project anyway.

  7. Wrist pin is what a couple of us have agreed on. Honestly won't know until it comes apart, but I plan on fixing the issue and dropping it in the falcon, always a set back of some sort. Throw more money at it, that'll fix it lol

Lloyd, I just don't care how much I spend on my car. Concern about money is for all the other stuff we spend it on in my opinion.

  11. Lol I get it. I have an obs truck in the transmission shop getting a 700R4 rebuilt, that's gonna be in the $1800 range. I was building an engine for my 62 falcon, and now that's gonna go in the wagon, so now I'll have to fix the engine in the wagon to go in the falcon, and it's kicking my 5 speed to the back burner.... but whatever, it'll all work out lol. I told Andy last night that I've spent $3550 on this engine, and I still gotta get head gaskets and some ugly *** center bolt valve covers, but when you build your own engine, you know what it is. Now if Lumpy lived next door, I'd let him build my engine :D:cool: looking forward to seeing you this year man. Had my fill of winter!

Ha, I get it! Winter ****s, I'm hardly getting any automotive stuff done. Thinking I'm gonna rebuild the shifter I bought like you did. It has no discernible ''bump'' to go past for the reverse gate. Looking forward to spring.

If it matters to you, they make adapters to put older valve covers on these...

  14. Yes, Winter ****s!

We are going to get hammered tonight & then bitter cold for a week or so. This **** works on my ambition level.

Nothing any uglier about center bolt valve covers than the old ones, in fact a set of ball milled cast aluminum ones are much cleaner looking than the old ones. I did see that most newer aluminum heads are drilled for both types.:D

    Yeah like these

And I agree about winter, it seams here it's been cold for to long, not a lot of snow to speak of but long stretches of teens and single digits. I keep my garage at 53 degrees constantly but this cold makes my body ache and the 1957 frame cleaning isn't on my most liked things to do anyhow.

  18. I just can't do it like I used to, and it's nowhere near as bad here as it is there. I'll be 57 this year, at 60 I'm out of here. Heading south, where i can ride my bike every damn day of the year lol.

You won't regret it. I left the frozen tundra (Minnesota) in 1994 and haven't looked back.

  20. I often lament about that fact that I did NOT move to Northern Georgia when I was going to a couple of decades ago when I used to be there every other week! I love it down there, the people are so nice & most of the time the weather is as well.

I can't say never, but as an only child blessed with still having both parents (86 & 85) & all the time/ money building & equipping my shop, I am probably here till the end. Also once the new house build starts, that will cement me even more in Northern Ohio.

Yeah, but the heat is worse the further south you go. Here in the mid Atlantic region, the tolerable outside temps last from March through October. We're talking 50 degrees through 90.
Probably 2 weeks total mid summer where it will hit 95+ but not like I felt in Bowling Green one August and not for a whole month!
But, December through February it is cold, and some snow. Car season is pretty long here in my opinion. Pick your level of discomfort, I guess!

That would be ideal! Northeast in the summer, deep south all winter.
My daughter lived in TN for a while, she got her first college degree and graduated in time with the Tri 5 Nationals. Took my father in law there, had a great time but almost melted!

Try central Missouri, we can get all four seasons in one week.
