So back in the before times, when I first built my coupe. I had these cool og cal custom rajah ends and clear solid wires I really wanted to use. Before the first startup I was going through that Cadillac motor (early 390) and noticed there were no points in the dizzy. Lo and behold OReilly had an ignitor but no points, so me being as impatient as I am, I got that and spliced cloth wires onto it and have never thought twice.

That was a long *** time ago and it’s been solid as can be. I changed to red wires when I painted the car, but still had the same old module.

The other day someone asked me about it and it blew their mind, as they were absolutely certain it would NOT work and the car was possessed or faking it somehow. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was faking it frankly. It runs like pissed off porcupine though, no issues ever ign wise sooooo… Is this a myth or what. Kinda wondering?

The secondary and more really realsy reason Im bringing this up to a few thousand of my closest friends and 4 weirdos is this: My 39 has a 59AB with an Efire and I’ve been told Efire won’t like solid core. I sure would like to ditch the black wires in favor of something cloth and they do make spiral core in cloth, but I dont like the black boots. I still have some pretty slick ends in my stash. Any reason this wouldn’t work? Anyone try it?

    Muchas gracias, mis amores!

  2. Solid core wires burned up my Petronix. You're lucky yours still works. Mine would randomly shut down, restart a few minutes later, until it wouldn't.

This is more in line with what I've heard. It's weird because it has worked fine like relentlessly for 16 years now.

Mine lasted about 6 months before the solid core wires killed my pertronics module
prolly around 1000 to 1500 miles
ran very well until it died

The Pertronix works fine on a Model A with the standard br*** strap wires. But FSI who makes the A distributor says use resistor core wire and plugs. The RFI can mess up the ignitor. The original seems to have been immune to RFI but the II and III have more brains if you will and can be effected.
AI sez: The Pertronix Igniter 2 offers a stronger spark and better performance than the basic Igniter 1, while the Igniter 3 is the top-tier module, featuring multi-spark technology and an adjustable, integrated rev limiter, requiring a full 12 volts to the coil and a specific low-resistance coil for maximum benefit, unlike the Igniter 2 which is more forgiving with ballast resistors
Pertronix RFI (Radio Frequency Interference) refers to the need for their electronic ignition systems and related components, like "Flame-Thrower" spark plug wires, to use suppressed wires (RFI-suppressing) to prevent electronic noise, protecting sensitive modern electronics and ensuring reliable operation, with their newer Ignitor modules and high-output systems benefiting from these wires to avoid interference and voltage spikes

I’ve been down this rabbit hole myself, because my Ignitor 1 on 6v has been excellent for almost 10k miles with the original style copper solid core cloth covered plug wires.

From my research, it seems Pertronix will admit the solid core wires will not effect the Ignitor 1 modules, but will effect the 2 and 3, so they don’t recommend them across the board.

Makes sense. I have Ignitor 1 so it just doesn't care I guess.

Anyone have experience using rajah ends on spiral core wires?

These are rajah ends on suppressor core wires. Been on there running for 7 years. MSD ignition so no solid core wires. IMG_7356.jpeg
