@atch I haven't noticed a lot of difference just going from 19's (or 21's) to the 16 inchers. The best bang I've gotten is taking two or three leaves out of the springs and running good shocks. They're not nearly as 'skittery'?
Whatever @hotrodfil and @winduptoy suggest I would go with, they put an imperial and US (respectively) ton of miles on their bangers.

  2. Glad to see that bed of parts was worth it!! Between you and Jay, I think you guys can build something pretty fun!

Yep! We have everything to put together a pretty sweet pre-war car now. My old T body will see the light of day again minus 4 cylinders :D

The Heads are for a customers motors. They were made by Bob McKinney out of Paso Robles about 20 years ago. Theres a couple of vintage hill climb cars with the heads on them, a 1932 Roadster, Steve Nelson's Bonneville car (201.78 mph)
and maybe a couple of others. Theres been a little more information on the HAMB about them. There is also a video of the 1932 Roadster burning up the road on Youtube.

I bought a box full of about 20 Model A & B camshafts at the Turlock Swap Meet over the weekend. A few of the Model A cams have 5 cam bearing journals. When were blocks made with 5 cam journals, and what where they used for?

Wasn’t the 5 bearing cam an AR thing?

Yessir. 28AR, but I don’t know if Ford even produced the block for the full year.
I seem to remember years ago a how-to in SOS or Four Banger about machining some bolt in Cam journals in order to run them. Supposedly the five bearings let higher spring pressures and reduced camshaft whip at high RPM’s. Like adding journals for a five bearing crankshaft.
Cores, at least with good center gear drive teeth, have to be very rare.
I have one in my stash of banger stuff. Just packed away from the recent move.

Approximately the first 200,000 produced were 5 cam bearing engines.

The Burtz engine has 5 cam bearings and a new 5 bearing cam is available from them too.

Thanks for the replies on the 5 bearing cams! I'll ***ume that these are early production 1928 cams.

  27. yes early production has the 5 bearing cams fully finished
But as the production of engines progressed away from the 5 bearing cams the un used bearings were machined undersize to reduce the finish grind
