Loved it, of course. Yet another movie that had that OT Dodge that has been in so many movies and TV shows, too.
The self repair scene was amazing visually in practical effects.
Honorable mention to the actor, who really changed over the course of the movie, too.

I can really nerd out on the Christine movie!

The same warehouse was divided down the middle to be two sets: the factory ***embly line scene on one side, and Darnell's Garage on the other.

All the leftover cars and parts after filming were dumped in a junkyard in Fontana. What was just junk in 1983 is solid gold these days! A few people were able to take pictures and bought whatever they could before it was all crushed. Link: The Christine Story

Steven King didn't know squat about the 1958 Plymouth Fury. He just remembered walking home from high school and seeing a "Fury" nameplate on a neighbor's car. He thought that would be the perfect model to use for his brewing story of a teenager possessed by a demonic car. In the book, the car is a red four door, while real '58 Furys were all Buckskin Beige coupes. John Carpenter was smart to make the movie car a red coupe.

John Carpenter closely studied '50s Chrysler ***embly line photos to get that ***embly line scene correct. You may notice the era-correct clipboards, smocks, and cigars. :)

My first car I ever owned was a 57 Plymouth 4 door just like the one you see in this picture, only more powder blue from the oxidation and UV degradation from the hot San Joaquin valley sun.
It had a 318 and a typewriter transmission!

That movie got me hooked on Thorogood music but that's about it.

My dad took me to see this movie at the theater… I was probably seven or eight… It SCARED the **** out of me and I’ve hated the horror genre ever since.

    My mom was so pissed.

I watched this once as a kid and was so terrified of "scary" looking old cars I would be afraid of cars with a "mean face"... LOL ... it was only way into adulthood I watched Christine again, but now I rather enjoy the campy nature of it all.

Interesting catch with this one — built with only 2 headlights for a state that hadn't rewritten its safety laws to allow quads?

Nah, that is just a photo of a '57 Plymouth being built, and not a '58 like the others.

In 1957, the big Chryslers, Desotos, and Imperials had optional quad headlights. Dodge and Plymouth only had dual headlights that year. In 1958, all the brands had quads as standard equipment.

As an owner of a 1957 Plymouth and someone who has owned both 57 and 58 Plymouths I did like the movie. I am not a fan, however of all the cars that have been converted into Christines. I have seen a few nicely done, but most of the ones I come across are half-***ed. I have even seen a few 1959 and 1960 Plymouths done with the Christine name on them.

And that’s why I won’t own a Plymouth Fury. It ends up owning you!!!

Well, it would be nice to have a car that can fix itself!

When the movie airs on cable, the gas station fire/explosion scenes are chopped out. One of the best parts!

I've never owned any cars that were evil. A few may have been mentally challenged...

  18. well, to be fair, most of what was junked really was junk. little to nothing salvagable due to them being in really rough shape to begin with.

Great movie, love Christine and the Charger in it. I wish my 65 Sport Fury had the self restoration feature like Christine, just without the kill mode.

Me too, only it was my dad that fixed it up with a white/turquois/black 3-tone paint job, and I drove it to high school in my senior year. I remember being sooo proud that I wired up a rear radio speaker in parallel with the front one - my first car mod.
Flathead six 3-speed - it never tried to kill me, but I tried killing it a couple of times.

That jump scare when Arnie flies out of Christine's windshield and pulls the chunk of gl*** out of his chest as he bleeds out... Yeah, that would do it.

This thread made me think back and remember I had never seen the movie. So I looked for it on netflicks and watched it. Pretty good cheap entertainment for a below zero day, wife even liked it!

I read the book before seeing the flick; I think I read part of it in ******* and went looking for the whole book. The car was depicted wrong, I knew that, but let it slide. When the movie came out I drove 75 miles to get to a theater showing it. I liked the flick, John Carpenter has a real touch for getting horror right.
    I found a '57 Dodge a few years later; a Royal Coronet 2dr hardtop; put a '63 Chrysler 383 in it....
