I took Kenny Youngblood's advice - visited the Kruger Street Toy and Train Museum in Wheeling, WV this past Friday. Found this displayed in the "Transportation" room. Very interesting place!

Yeah, it threw me too in another post.:D
Full disclosure, @41 GMC K-18 is the original artist, and I chose to change my avatar a while back and PM'ed him about the change when I did. It's his work, his choice to use it and it still makes me smile.
Just keeping everyone on their toes! :)

and no, I didn't shave and cut my hair! :p

    Hello,

We have liked roadsters since our involvement in drag racing in 1957. But, at the time, we wanted a coupe to race and drive on the street to school. So, we ended up with an Impala sedan first and then a 1940 Willys Coupe with a 671 supercharged SBC motor. The build process was perfect and difficult, but it was run on Friday nights several times in Bixby Knolls.

By the time we finally drove it on the neighborhood cruising streets, we realized it was not just a daily driver and was going to be difficult to be a high school cruiser. It was too powerful and a little scary.

So, we had ideas of making a roadster for our daily driver. But what type? SBC powered, 4 speed and large enough for two teens to be comfortable cruising around. So, we tossed around several ideas. A straight roadster did not have enough room to carry around parts or delivering supplies for our small business. An RPU would make a perfect platform.

Finally, we decided to combine the ideas of a larger cab roadster pickup and not have any fenders. At the time, we were told that to run fenderless, the hot rod had to be around 1500 lbs. It was going to be close, but the idea stuck. Fenderless it was, with the custom headers running out and down going into a collector, it would have some sound, but be perfectly legal.

With the smooth running Paxton Supercharged Fords and T-Birds running around our cruising area, we wanted to incorporate the supercharger on an SBC motor. I wanted a shade of dark blue and my brother wanted red.

But, at least the both of us could fit nicely inside of the slightly extended cab. YRMV

It's been quite a while since I last visited, sorry to see what's happened to FAS, oh well. Here are my two latest hot rod paintings anyway.

    I agree.
Out of curiosity, I compared the last FAS on the main board (May 16, 2025) with last week's FAS (Jan 16-22. 2025).
    Old FAS-57 posts
    New FAS-32 post
    A decline of 43.8%

    Old FAS-74 artistic images
    New FAS-47 artistic images
    A decline of 38.6%

Also, the number of "likes" is down nearly 50% due to lack of traffic on the Off Topic forum.

This piece is by a local Seattle artist Steven J. Walker, to my eye, its the ultimate fat fendered automobile.
