I believe you are still running the 292 and I used a 5.0/302 in our wagon.

I wanted to mount the compressor on the p***anger side of the car and the closest thing I could find is the brackets made by Alan Grove, I had to do some slight modifications on them but they worked like a charm, I used a popular vintage air compressor.

BTW, they also offer a bracket to mount on the drivers side, again with a 292 you need to talk to them and see if they have something specifically designed for your engine, if not you might be able to modify one of these to do the job. HRP

    Check out the catalog.

    Best I can offer.

    Hello,

Nice photo of your station wagon motor/AC set up. The rotary compressors are smaller and take up less space than the vertical York Compressors.

We had an early vertical York compressor on our 327 SBC motor of the 40 Ford Sedan Delivery. My wife liked the sedan delivery because it had the coldest interior of any of our cars at the time. The York was evident as soon as one opened the hood. It stood up almost in the same position as @HOTRODPRIMER rotary unit.
    upload_2026-1-23_5-46-20.png Similar York installation
If the rotary units had been available back then, we would easily have bought one and mounted it lower in the compartment. The handy thing about the size of those rotary units is wonderful and that they usually are mounted on top for ease of installation and hook up. But, they can be mounted elsewhere, too.

Our York vertical unit was a large aluminum color model that took up almost the whole right side of the engine area. All of the belts lined up fine and it did pump cold air. But, we had to have it serviced several times as it leaked, got low in the output and started to eat up belts.

All of the rest of our daily drivers had the rotary compressors and they never failed or leaked. They were on top, but took up less space than the taller York units from the early days. I would stay away from those tall York compressor units. YRMV

@AldeanFan , are you asking about condenser inside the car or compressor on the engine?

    Pick the appropriate questions below.

Which dash unit are you mounting?
    What compressor are you using?
What engine is supporting the compressor?

    Lots of questions.

I mounted my condenser to the radiator while both were out of the truck. It made for easy install since the grill shell has to go in first. Once the grill is in place ( '37 Chevrolet truck ) you can not get to the condenser. It was all good till I needed to pull the radiator for work, this meant draining the A/C which I didn't want to do. My mounting brackets were riveted on the outer brackets of the radiator. I worked most of a day carefully drilling out the rivets while in the truck. Once I pulled the radiator I figured out how to add nuts, going back together was a bolt in operation.

Think about down the road before making it really hard on yourself later on.

My bad, I mounted my condenser in front of the radiator.

Hopefully this photos will help. HRP

I am not a fan of wire ties through the radiator core, so I made some brackets (aluminum) and welded them to the radiator on both sides to mount mine in a 41 PU. Turned out neat and tidy and I provided a small air gap so there would be no abrasion. This is quite similar to HRP.

Here is how not to do it, I used 1/8" x 1/2" strap across the radiator riveted to the radiator sides, then riveted the condenser to the straps. I have since replaced the radiator side rivets with screws. Its mounted high on the radiator because in the truck the lower portion of the radiator sets below the air flow coming from the grill, the condenser gets full air flow. Shroud was made for a 17" fan, I have since changed to a 16" Vintage Air 6 blade fan and small shroud. Vintage Air condenser. DSCN1706.JPG DSCN1709.JPG DSCN1703.JPG

I’m asking about the condenser mounted in front of the radiator.

I’m using a vintage air compressor and compressor bracket for the y block an a vintage air evaporator unit for under the dash.

Probably not what you are looking for, but I mounted my condenser under the cab floor. Didn't have enough room up by the rad, as the charge air cooler took up too much space.

It is a long, narrow unit, from a Mack truck roof top AC unit. I made the shroud and mounted a pair of 8 inch electric fans.
