I havent been around much, lately.
    The '53 is hibernating.
    Work, family take precedent...
    You know how it is...

    Here's a neat story, though:

A few months ago, my wife sent pics of my vintage bicycles, motorbikes, gas pump collection and the '53 pickup to a TV production company, for a NEW TV show that will air in '07 (for the Quebec market)...

(It's one of those 'reno' shows - but with a twist: they design and build a room around a historical artefact, collector item or antique... With the help of a designer, a contractor with helper, a artisan working with 'old world' techniques and a 1500$ budget...)

My wife did NOT tell me about it... so it was quite a surprise when the production company called to say they had chosen OUR project!?

My wife new I wanted a pool room in the new house... So they designed and built an 'Old Style Service Station' around my 1950 Bennett gas pump.

The fella responsible for the signage (Pierre tardif) is VERY talented. He has a commercial signage company but also does 'vintage' lettering for the movie industry - including some BIG hollywood productions shot in Montreal...

So, here is a link with a few pics of the room so far - I will keep adding more vintage signs and decorative elements as I come across them (The table is VERY well made - it was NOT part of the budget - I bought it for the occasion):

It was a simple process, really...
I bought pre-varnished, engineered hardwood flooring in 2 different finishes (2/3 oak and 1/3 chestnut), and installed it in a stripped pattern (2 to 1)...

Totally AWESOME! I LOVE the flooring. I just did my kitchen and I wish now I would have thought of a two tone. Looks killer! Congrats.

Also, let us know when it airs. I know there is some British and Candian broadcasts/programing on HGTV. Perhaps they'll show this??

What's the story on the ceiling? Tin-look tiles or real tin?

Looks rad. I'll keep an eye out for the show. I've retained enough French from 12 years of immersion to get through the odd TV program.
Also, I see that, apparently, the Quebecois think that the stupid, useless goddamned language laws they insisted on in this country only apply to english signs...
As an anglophone, I demand you immediatly paint english translation on all those signs.

    ;)

    Take care,
    Kris

I would appreciate the info on the ceiling paper as well. I am about to lay down way too many clams for tin.

Your local 'Lowes' or Home Depot should have it? I bought mine at Home Depot.
    Cost for the 16' X 12' room was about 85$ + 1 gallon of paint (45$).
It's pretty easy to install but a pro should charge about 250$.
