I’ve had some old chevys that were like that, can’t push the clip out because it is “guarded “ the tool for those is like a pliers with hooks grab and pull

Makes you wonder if the engineers did some of this stuff on purpose - to drive us nuts. They must’ve had a sense of humor lol

  7. Kinda torn between the merc grill and the desoto.
My merc grill is nice and I dig the huge bumper guard. But a big tooth desoto grin has been on my bucket list

  9. Looked in my junk pile and I think I got a usable 50 grill surround.
Thinking about losing the trunk and hood trim

Nosed and decked. That was almost always the first thing done to a custom car back in the day

  11. The goofy hood ornament has to go. The trim on hood at the grill will go if the 50 surround works out
It’s about a 50/50 split for students on removing the trunk trim
Seriously considering 50 Lincoln ****ons on the doors

one way to look at it is the more 75 year old edgy chrome you can shave off from it , the better it will look.....

  19. That’s the plan
We’re starting to remove the rear handles tomorrow
    Then start on the front
students said they liked the surface mount better than the flush.

  20. One down

  22. Wear it out
    We ain’t skeered

  23. Door 2.
    99% done by students
    IMG_0720.jpeg IMG_0721.jpeg
tacked in place. Students hammered a matching contour in a plug and trimmed to fit. Tacked.
Will go over finish work tomorrow, hopefully.
Did a shrink disc demo for first year students. Hood dent had the typical high ridge. Looks like the previous owner claw hammered at it.
First pic s after the first p*** with the disc
    IMG_0714.jpeg
    Consecutive hammer then disc applications
    IMG_0715.jpeg IMG_0716.jpeg IMG_0717.jpeg
    looks a lot better

Anthony, I have a bent conduit home made bulls eye pick you can have free for the taking. Its a bit loose at the joint, no provision for a return spring and thus could use some tune-up but its mostly functional. It could even be a template to making more as a take home project for each of the students. If you want it send me a PM. I upgraded to a real Bullseye branded one and dont need it.

I just got a wavy Sunchaser style shrinking disc from Mike Wagner last week but have yet to try it out. My smooth one is from Wray and it does work but I never really liked the galled finish it left on the metal.
