The measurement in red is 44", but it's deceptive because the rear of the wheelwell opening doesn't follow the same circular path as the front. Trying to compensate for the way it stretches backward and picturing a tire in there, it looks like a semi-circular tub that would be the same size as the opening is going to be 36-37" in diameter (the yellow mark). ¹ Moving the axle back and raising the body would make more use of the elongated opening (if that makes sense), and I would gain a few precious inches of wheelbase and more space for a slick - maybe 40+". I could re-center the wheels by modifying/remaking the fenders (which I just confirmed don't fit this bodyshell, anyway) so they don't look off. With a bit of finagling, I can squeeze a big tire under there with a good amount of clearance. And that's with using what I have, and not just taking a sawzall to it.
I don't think a comp coupe. More like a "later in the g***er era car". Brother Mike owned this one (just the body was all that was left) and built it to run with an injected Olds. He sold it to someone in PA.
Yep. spent a lot of my youth there. Good times. We used to take our cars there all the time. (nothing famous, just a bunch of beaters). Still haven't found any pictures of my 49 Pontiac he**** that I took there one weekend and they stuck me in D/mp because I had put a straight axle under it.
You might be right. I'm honestly trying to work out the best route given how short it it, and I'm spitballing here. So far, I've got building it as is and be prepared to work hard at dialling in a suspension that will let it run straight most of the time, or limit how fast it is to keep it stable (****iest option). Then there's the comp altered route with a longer ch***is, exposed engine and no bodywork forward of the firewall. My Dad is the guy in my profile pic, and he ran a '32 Bantam with a Y-block on methanol, so I'm fond of altereds anyway.
Oops, sorry. Guess I was looking at the rear wheelwell opening and not the wheels, especially the front, when I posted the Blair's car.

The issue you run into with these things, unless you go center steer/Altered, is driver space/ legroom. A big tire drives a seat forward, and the big engine/trans needs to be at least as far back as #1 at spindle or behind. Your right foot wants to be where the bellhousing is.
Makes complete sense, especially since the front edge of the wheelwell is so much further forward than stock. Any tire that fills it is going to be squeezing the available space even more. I wanted to get better measurements and more pictures, so me and my kid spent Saturday clearing out the garage, and somehow made it worse. I can't get next to the Anglia now. I'm going to get back into it today, and hopefully make progress. And that's not counting all the stuff that's stored inside it
