A young friend of mine (30-something) has another name for "The Barrett-Jackson Experience".
He calls it the "Barrett-Jackson Travelling Circus". :D

I am only guessing here, but I think that is probably the reason for them being in business, - and possibly driven by their love of automobiles.
I am sure they have costs involved with running such a business.
Unlikely that anyone is forced to support their business from either the selling or the buying side.

  4. I checked the results every day. Like most of us, that's past my pay grade. :) But it is interesting. Saturday is memorable if you were involved. :) As far as the caddy, I'm pretty sure Mark owns a jack and a lug wrench. I have no idea how many sets of tires and wheels he owns. :)

I thought you knew him and he lived near you. I remember you posting a couple of pictures and videos of him cruising into the show. You know if he is building something else to replace it?

I talked to one guy in my club who has gone there a few times. It is basically rich people trading cars and driving up the prices. Someone will like a car in someone else collection and then they put it in the auction to get seen. At that level it is 100K means nothing to them. It is all about the show and being seen....

I saw that too, it was on a new Ford GT. She had the look on her face and moved her hand in front of her head. Cut to commercial.

  14. My wife sent me to Scottsdale in 2012, it was the first time I had been to that sort of an event. We went as spectators on the Thursday, and I thought it was a spectacle. Times were a little tough then, mid sixties vettes were bringing 30 thousand, anything with a pastel stripe or billet wheels was bringing in the 20’s. T buckets and pickups were as cheap as 18. There were 1800 vehicles on offer, all of which would have been the pride of the fleet. We were able in the morning, to sit in the premium seats and see all the action. Lifetime bucket list type of event for me. Seems except for the prices looks like nothing has changed.

That's the one I thought it was too. Maybe Brian S. ended up with it? Or a different one altogether? Enlighten us if possible @Moriarity .

Yes Brian Setzer was the last owner of the Jesse James Austin speed shop Model A He had owned it for at least a year I saw it several times at the drive in here last summer. I do not know why Brian sold it but it is absolutely the same car
Here’s a picture of the model A and Brian sitting in my 56 taken last summer

Can't the owner still bid at BJ? Maybe he had the last bid so he just paid the paperwork instead of the price. When they went to no reserve they started that. One of MANY reasons I would not buy at BJ.

"Yet there’s more to the Barrett-Jackson No Reserve format. We create a level playing field by ensuring that each bidder is prequalified. Consignors are also prohibited from bidding on their own vehicles, and Barrett-Jackson helps enforce this policy by using the latest technology." www.barrett-jackson.com/media/articles/the-benefits-of-consigning-your-collector-car-at-no-reserve

n any case, there’s an entry fee (they don’t disclose the amount and it goes up for prime time placement) and an 8% buyer’s premium. Buying your car back would be pretty expensive.

I live in Phoenix so it's handy. But for a spectator, BJ requires a lot of walking to see a few decent cars. Many of the consigned cars look like "used cars". In previous years, I paid the twenty bucks admission and took my chances. According to their website the lowest ticket price this year was $62-that's where I draw the line-it's no longer worth it, period.

Unless the car has big brakes Putting the correct wheels, tires and hubcaps on it is a 20 minute process if you have everything there. I was eyeballing and OT car that is on my short list that had "big rims" on it but was just what I want otherwise that if I had the money to buy it I would have got the proper wheels and tires and one of the guys down at the tire shop would own a set of big ugly wheels just for saying he liked them and questioned my removing them.
