Paid $2500 for this '54 Chevy Panel Deliv...an old hippy van. It became the Wife's grocery getter. 350/350.

Traded the Sedan Deliv. to the late @Hamtown Al (RIP) for this '36 Cabriolet. During the "Covid break" had a chance to go through it. 302AOD.

A few misc. others I've owned...

My high school hot rod built in auto shop, '48 Chevy 283/3spd. [IMG]

Bought this '58 Ranchero wrecked for $50. Replaced front sheet metal with '57 nose. 390/4spd.

A couple of Model T Depot Hacks I build for a buddy.
    [IMG] [IMG]

Bought this '32 Ford pickup for $1200...only owned for a week...couldn't resist a "quadruple your money" offer. [IMG] [IMG]

Picked up this Plymouth "coupster", but was just too ugly/odd to build.

An $800 cobbled up '34 Fordor.
The Sedan was sacrificed to repair a buddy's wrecked '33 5 window. Sold the '26 Roadster to a HAMBer who finished it (can't remember his username). [IMG] [IMG]

Picked up this '40 Plymouth in a trade...a 2 door sedan with no roof...so I built one.

Now then, I know pics or it didn't happen, but believe what ya want.
Here's my history, by year of Mfg.
    '26 Studebaker, '29 Cabriolet, + '30 Coupe-Fords, 32 Chevy coupe, 35 Ford Tudor slant back,
'41 Ford business coupe, '53 Ford Mainline, '55 Nomad, '56 Dodge D-500 cpe,
'60 Ford Sunliner, '64 Olds Convertible Cutl***, '65 Chevelle Wagon,

    Hello,

Of all of the hot rod cruisers, racers and drag race cars we have been ***ociated with in our teenage years, one stands out. No, it was not the first one. It was the 1965 El Camino that I bought to head off to college in Northern California. A So Cal teen going on a great adventure away from home for longer than a week or so. Yikes!

But, it started the whole idea of independence and creative ideas that flash through one’s mind as you sit in a lecture hall filled with 100 similar age students. Yes, the cl*** information was rather boring and to me, required, but useless. There were those in high school, but in college one would think there are specific cl***es to take from the first cl*** onwards. The first two years were the general education cl***es. English, math and science. Then pile on the electives or other required cl***es to get ahead for next year.

Knowing it was going to be 4 years to get a degree of sorts, those required cl***es were spaced out in between the fun cl***es. A badminton PE cl***? Who ever heard of that for credit? I took that cl*** into the expert cl*** the following semester. I even entered the lunch hour all school/faculty included badminton contest with a top eliminator of sorts at the end. I went through the first two rounds and had a tough match against another senior 6 foot 6 inch player with a wingspan of a Boeing jet. But, I did find faults with his game and won.

Now, the final match against a one armed Chemistry Teacher that was winning against anyone on the court. I watched his moves and planned my attack. We won, lost, tied and finally I won the final tie breaker with a lob, drop shot I learned from the one arm teacher. I was in awe of that older guy, but I did win the tournament. YES!

The whole time my El Camino was in the carport just a few blocks down the street from campus. As soon as I won, I jumped in the El Camino and took off for the country side San Jose. Then turned around and went down Highway 17 all the way to Santa Cruz. That was my second favorite area in Northern California. I was happy and my El Camino served me well up to this point. Instant start up in any weather or road conditions. Rain so thick the water on the roads were up to the middle of the rims.

Exploration in unknown cities and famous sites were fun in a strange place. But, when I returned home to Long Beach to finish out the last two years of college, it was old home week that led to 10 more years of local and long distance cruising all over the West coast of the USA. Our road trips mostly went North a million times back to the S.F. area and as far south into Baja Mexico for our Southern coastal vacations.

Total miles from 1964 to 1976: 125k of trouble free motoring all over So Cal, Baja Mexico and Northern California coastline + alternate return homes, in the inland portion of California, deserts and lakes… It was the most reliable hot rod cruiser/surf transportation we ever owned in those early days... YRMV

So, where did it end up? The last we saw of the red 1965 El Camino was that it had a trailer hitch, and was now painted dark blue. The young surfer/sailor we sold the El Camino kept it red for a year and then, when we saw it in Dana Point Harbor, it was blue… A new life adventures awaits…

    Note:
When I got back to Long Beach, my friend was raring to go to the desert for the newly found motorcycle racing adventures. His new ride was a 1966 Chevy El Camino, similar but changed a little in the front clip. The big difference was that he had bucket seats, a 4 speed, A/C, and a new 396 motor with a lot of power. That is what I wanted in my 65 El Camino, since the Chevy dealers had those items in stock, in the fall of 1964. But, back then, the ruling was... "Only for the Chevelle Malibu models from the factory" ... geeez!

I’ll jump ahead a little, my Nomad (w/400 sbc & TH400) with my new (to me) flatbottom. It was one of my favorite cars but it was a casualty of my second marriage, she thought I should be driving a nice late model pickup instead of an old station wagon….
I still have the Hemi out of the boat, it’s going in my current project.

  30. Not sure if my cars are HAMB worthy (some stock or mostly stock). All of my cars that I've had are HAMB era range minus my 1st car and 1 other car I bought to flip (both were muscle car era). But my legal driving age wasn't until the late 80s.
