Well... Since my Plymouth is not a tow vehicle and since I'm shooting for period correct from the 60's, I don't look at it as a step back. A step back in time, yes, but that's what I'm after.

I have never had a car quit on me because of a points style distributor. Electronic/HEI, several times.

  5. I get it...Traditional site, traditional cars/trucks!

I have nothing against building your car to be period correct & think it is pretty cool to go the extra mile to make them exactly the way they were built back then.

2 of my 14 (57 T-Bird & 55 Nash Amb Custom Lemans) are currently points cars & will stay that way as they are far from high horsepower cars. Several others came with points but won't be when I am done building them & of course anything I am building for high RPM & most consistent H.P. will definitely get an HEI or MSD 6A just common sense.

My comment was just teasing Mark a bit for his comment about points being the "best" ignition system which of course it is not, but it is traditional for the site.

    God Bless
    Bill

We set up the Chrysler 392 block with aluminum side plates to get bolt holes vertical for drilling and tapping, see pic. It's set up on a huge flat stone table. Checking the flat milled part with an indicator.
Hopefully we can borrow the milling machine tuesday evening coming week.

Will be redoing my trunk area to match the upholstery I did last winter inside the coupe. Have a few other trick up my sleeve for the up coming season as well.;) WIN_20250306_17_09_20_Pro.jpg

After an evening of trial and error I came to the conclusion that my mom’s old Viking sewing machine was not up to the task of doing upholstery. I ordered a real basic Consew straight s***ch, walking foot machine. No regrets, it seems to handle vinyl and 1/2” sew foam with ease. After familiarizing myself with the machine I made a small test piece to see how much length I’ll lose per pleat. The 2” pleats I laid out consistently shrunk to 1 7/8” so I’ll have to take that into consideration when I finally start on my inserts. For now, more practice… IMG_0191.jpeg

Thanks for the positive reinforcement, this actually was my first time sewing anything with a machine. I've been binge watching YouTube videos to learn some basic techniques, I just need a little more practice before I try to tackle the truck.

Continuing the project of fixing up an old 32 grill shell for my Model A pickup. After finishing up the block sanding I got some color on the shell.

    Here's a base coat I applied first:

Followed by some metallic blue and topped off with a 2k clear:

Then after considering my options for the grill insert I decided to paint the vertical bars black, so I first polished up the outer frame and the bezel around the crank hole, then I taped it all off and sprayed it with some flat black.

Now here's the insert set into the shell, I still need some hardware to secure the insert in place.

And I have to confess, I screwed up. I ***umed the clear coat, after 24 hours, was hard enough to handle. I wanted the inside of the shell black, not blue, so when you look through the grill, as in that pic above, it's black behind the grill. So I masked everything off and shot the black, but when I pulled the masking off I found that it had marred the clear coat. Arrrrggggg!!!! Damn! Well, if I get lucky it will all sand out when I color sand it, but I will have to allow the hardener in the 2k clear to fully cure, that may take a couple of weeks? You can see the marring in this photo:

More practice pieces, trying inside corners on the speaker box wraps and working on running straight lines. Triangles on top and diamonds on the bottom. There’s some weird puckers and wavy lines but I’m learning from the mistakes…

Drilled and tapped two holes in the 392 block yesterday evening, see pic. It's a bit slow but we are using 3 tapps, first, middle and finish tap.

I'm lucky that my shop is in my ba*****t, so it's nice and warm.

  20. Only a half inch of snow overnight but it's started up again around 10 this morning and it is way too cold to make any headway pulling down the hotrod's transmission in the unheated garage. Feeding the birds and working on another walking stick in MY heated ba*****t.

Today I worked on kick panels. The daytime high was -15 F but it’s a balmy 65 degrees in the shop…
