@PasoJohn over a half a million likes... I wonder how many more custom car photos he has in his collection?

    That Camino is sharp af....

I like those cooler units too. We saw one at a show and my kid said "is that a rocket launcher", obviously thinking if it was, we needed one....

Thanks Mark @Moriarity. I guess my custom craze started with magazines in the late 70's and early 80's then I drove down to Des Moines Iowa as a spectator to see the 2nd year of the KKOA. That's when the bug bit me. I owned a 69 road runner at the time and I was ready to sell it and build a custom. It actually took till 1985 to sell my car and buy a different car, Being a Mopar guy I chose a 56 Dodge my neighbor had been bugging me to buy. It had sat for 5 years and the only thing he did was paint the dash and put king pins in. I tore into it, brakes, starter, generator, interior, louvered (104) hood and had the grill and bumpers re chromed and shaved handles. I drove it to Springfield Mo in 86 from Minnesota and this was my new hobby and love for traditional customs. I started off recording the shows with a video camera till 94 when I started to take pictures. Between 86-89 a friend and I would go to the Last P*** KKOA in Des Moines Iowa. He had bought a 55 Dodge built and customized by Ernie Baker ( same guy who put the 57 Desoto fins on my 58 Plymouth convertible) and by 1990 Doug needed to a new hemi engine rebuild for his 55 and sold me the convert. only took 2 years of cruising until I went to town with the Plymouth. By March of 92 I had all the bodywork and car painted then a new top and I was ready for the KKOA Spectacular in Holland Mi. where John Lee presented me the best Custom Mopar award. After that I drove to 11 Paso robles shows from 94-07 and 4 SM shows from 08-2016, Drove to Parsippany NJ in 93 and 94 for Leadeast. The CCR came around in 2013 and I went from 2014 till 2019 and 2023. I did have a 27 Tub all Ford from 1992-1998 that was pretty much a Rat rod before the term was around, Wide whitewalls rolled and pleated white interior with a 94 Mustang (new convertible top ) made into a tonneau cover. It was a lot of fun but I sold it in 1998 and started a search for my next Custom, @Moriarity had a 59 EL for sale in 2000 but I p***ed only to buy it in 2002. The El has been to 4 CCR's and 4 KKOA shows in Salina. (all driven) none of my cars has ever been trailered to a car show. I started posting my pictures and other's (pix) of Customs on the Kustom blue's page that Mick@straykatkustoms started in 2014. I never have told anyone except @Moriarity but I do a lot of customizing of other peoples pix, Crop them highlight the photo's so they look better. Well here's my story. My 56 Dodge that needs to get back on the road I've had for 41 years, my Plymouth I've had for almost 36 years the EL I've had for almost 26 years and my 64 Chevy wagon I bought in 1994, All 4 of my cars are painted in lacquer. Now that's old school. Pix are my 27 Ford and my 56 Dodge stopping in Bonneville on my way to Paso Robles in 1994. After getting 500,000 likes, posting pictures of customs I like, I wanted you all to know a little about me.

John and I drove together to a number of out of state shows in the 80's and 90's. I remember going to the 1994 KKOA leadsled show in Huntsville Alabama. I was driving my black 55 chev and he was in his 56 Dodge. We stopped on the way down to tour Elvis Presley's place at Graceland. It was incredibly hot that day, maybe 100 degrees. we parked our cars in the back of the lot far from the "regular" cars and hiked across the lot. I think it was John that said "Man it can never get too cold for me". Being from Mn we are used to cold winters and not very hot summers. We have been saying that phrase to each other ever since....

Being from Mn where fireworks are Illegal.... One year on the way to the KKOA we had stopped at a hotel for the night. Fireworks were legal there and we bought some bottle rockets and were lighting them off in the Hotel parking lot. John was there and my kids were there and we were having a pretty big time. It must have been dry there because way in the distance where the sparks were landing the gr*** was on fire. I (by myself with the others laughing at me) ran down there and stomped the fires out...

His wagon has dingle balls hanging in the windows in back. I told John that that reminded me of Selmer Olson Jr who lived in the neighborhood when I was a teenager. He had a 64 Ford Fairlane and he put dingle balls in it. When I asked him why he said "girls go for dingle balls and they go for the guys that got em".....

Hopefully Mark @Moriarity likes this one, but when your car needs fixing its best to do it at a car show (2009 KKOM Salina the old park). Someone had to hold the car ramp. Always with a camera. KKOA 2009 Salina (497B).JPG KKOA 2009 Salina (498).JPG

Back in 1993 just after I painted my 56 Dodge 8 coats of original white lacquer with no clear Mark @Moriarity and I drove to the Goodguys show in Des Moines Iowa, the 1st stop of a longer vacation. When we got to Des Moines we went to a gas station where some kids rode up on their bikes and asked me what color my car was, I said White when one of the kids said "That's a Lovely Shade of Color". Mark and I have said this phrase for over 30 years,

Great stories guys! Especially the one about the fire works and brush fire. Glad that we didn't have to start a HAMB defense fund or bail fund for you two hoodlums.:D:):D:):D...

haha, yeah the fires looked small because they were pretty far away, but once I got up to them they were several feet across! I did get them stamped out all while John and my kids were laughing....
