Like Ice cube said:"today was a good day" I finished patching the lower rear structural panel, and stared to make a rear p***enger patch panel since the old one was rusted out and smashed. I cut it out and told my self I'd figure out how to patch it. Since we're working on the rear,I was going to cut the p***enger lower skirt since it was all ****ed up by the forklift. If you ever straightened 16 ga panels, you might know the pain and suffering I endured for a couple hours. I had to get 4 of my heaviest dollies and one of my biggest hammers tob"sorta" get this stupid panel looking decent. That was a pain in the *** and I don't think the neighbors enjoyed it at all... we all need to move forward tho,no time for thinking just doing.
I think Harv has the answer..most likely a big crucible. I think that's what It is. Nice..how do you like your job?
Neighbor had an IH truck that was a short box body with a 6 ‘ flatbed. I think it was a Railroad truck at one time. He has a custom haying service. He used it to pull equipment with and stored tools , oil , twine and repairs in the box . Fuel tank was on the flatbed
Haha that's a funny visual but no,I've seen what you're talking about.. We 86'd the wheel opening.im going to create my own with a smaller radius
Now a question for the sheet metal gurus.. I need to reduce the radius on this wheel arch trim.. Is a bunch of metal work involved? Or basic section 4 pieces and weld together..??
Why not build pseudo fenders similar to @anthony myrick 's bus and make the radius any size you want.
After all the metal that you have hammered back into shape and made new again. A couple wheel moldings will be a piece of cake . Find a pair of the 48-52 Ford rear fenders and cut the side off . Then use the wheel radius.
We got rained on for a while..project stalled so I worked on something else..I made a deal for a clean front end off an f5 in Az,the guy ghosted me and pulled the ad a few days before i was supposed to go
Yeah..it would've been perfect,,it had the same paint as mine. Oh well. I started taking the front clip apart after i moved the entire bus a bit so i could get the 37 ford next to it. The Driver side fender is way too far gone as is the hood. Ive been searching for a front clip with no luck. I found an f1 clip that someone welded it together for a tilt front end. I hope the welds are bad so i can take it apart easily.
Boys. I have a dilema I need your help deciding. One piece Front clip that is all welded,i dont know how easy is going to be to separate all the piece, idk how much bondo there is under all the paint, i have to drive 90 mins to go get it and pay extra for the trim. Pros: smaller wheel opening, looks to be pretty straight. He wants 400.00 Or A whole f5 truck with flathead that can be delivered to me for 1k. Cons. Its a big ******* and i barely have the room for,its going to create more work. Big wheel opening Pros. Has ***le,i can sell everything else and make my money back(eventually),i could use the frame.. It would look stock without the street rodder look and it would have the correct trim and wheel opening for the F5 bus.
Kinda depends on what ch***is you are using. That front clip is full of bondo at the seams, who knows what else is under there. Plus it has a nasty dent in the corner. Could you remove the hood and leave the rest together? BTW I have some hood trim for that if it helps. Cheap. The F5 looks really clean. Heavy stuff to work with, parts are hard to find,(like brakes, etc) super low gears and would need new wheels (those are widowmakers) and tires $$$$ Basically comes down to what you want the bus to be... If you don't need that stuff right away, be patient, something better might come along
I need to start taking measurements so can at least have a rolling ch***is. Thats why i need the front clip kind of soon. So i can bolt it and start on the suspension. Yes i figured the f1 front clip would be full of bondo, probably no pretty welds, a couple of dents but better than mine... I know the suspension on the f5 is heavy and parts are hard to get i was just thinking of using the frame and bolting the c20 suspension to it like i did on my GMC. Theres a lot of s****per out here that would take all the old suspension away for free but it would be a major workout.
Okay I see where you are going. Be aware the F5 frame is double..... one channel inside another from the firewall back. That's why I said heavy SOB. If you have a C20 or C30 ch***is I'd use that and the 1 piece clip
I got a visit from code enforcement, she said "a neighbor complained about cars lookin like they are un operable and a van that is a butcher van" After i had a chat with her,i made my mind,i will not buy a truck that will take space and will take lots of work to part out. I told the F5 seller i couldn't buy the whole truck for that reason,i offered 700 for the clip and he declined,ok no problem, ill wait. I took the day off today because I wanted to pull the flathead to take to Utah to have it worked on and i woke up with a message from the one piece clip seller that he was back in town.. I told him,yes i want it,ill start heading down to Az to pick it up. 2 hrs later i was down in Kingman and I couldnt be happier, the front clip is as rust free and as straight as i hoped. They did a great job welding the supports to the fenders and they welded the hood to the fenders but they did a great job. They left everything in place and filled everything with bondo..not too bad. I took a few pics but it gets dark too soon.
*****azz rain trying to stop me from working on my stuff, and from grilling a couple of ribs. I was able to sneak a couple of hours moving some stuff. I decided to break the steps of the bus to rebuild them.. They are rusty but luckily the sides are not that bad.. I got a sheet metal Brake for free,,ill see how it works..once the rain stops. I also propped the nose trim that Scott sent. I cherish all the parts and all the favors friends do for my builds..thanks again Scott.
Well the bus has been sitting for a second .if you follow my other useless threads, ive been working on my 37 ford truck and ive cleaning the backyard so if the city decides to come around,I dont have a junkyard(I wish I did)they only see some type of tax not being paid...what ever. As I clean up,I try to get rid of stuff and one of those things was the rusty steps, ive been moving them around for a minute, well today I decided to used them as patterns so I could throw them rusty *** **** away, ill let the pictures tell the story. Also I bought a 48 cab to steal the front mounts and firewall since the bus was ****edddd by the seller and his forklift.. Im not sure what im going to do in the end but im always moving fwd. Im going to add some pics of my " diddys lubrication" station as it progresses.. Btw,I just changed companies after 7 years,im going to work at a government facility for a company and hopefully I'll like the 3 day weekend and 3hr daily drive..
Not much happening here in Scene city, between the bus,the 37 and not working for a couple of weeks, my wallet is draining FAST!!! I finally found an affordable rear end at 160.00,I had the springs from the last 14 bolt i had, i know I have the rear hangers in California but the fuel to go there might be cheaper to source them here.. I started to take the springs apart to clean and paint.. I started looking at lowering spindles but they are from 220 bux to 400!!! And i need two sets.. 1 to lower the Vanette.. I still need a MC and booster.. I quoted your post to ask if you Z'd the frame when you grafted the clip.. I might end up doing that... And panckaking the xmember.. Tomorrow i might throw the xmember in the pickle juice to start the degrease process.
Have you been watching this thread? Projects - 1936 ford pickup hotrod | Page 7 | The H.A.M.B. @Ed95 moved his front crossmember ahead so his axle is under the radiator like a 32-'34 Ford instead of under the engine...it's a good look.
