I am currently tackling the task of building a period correct g***er from my Dad's 1962 Ford Fairlane 500 for my A level EPQ project (This is a UK qualification where you can research or create a product for a qualification). Over the past year I have been building a 462 MEL with 430 heads. MEL parts aren't easy to come by in the UK so it has been a mission getting parts, luckily I got in contact with a gentleman in California that had most of the MEL parts I needed that he kindly gifted to me. Just after the New Year a 430 MEL came up for sale on facebook for a good price so I bought it to use for parts on my 462 MEL luckily it had all the parts I needed to complete my 462 build. At Hot Rod drags in the UK we bought a Ford F1 straight axle for the Fairlane because I thought that fitted the Traditional g***er build. The F1 axle will also be able to hold the weight of the 462. Haven't gotten round to cutting the independent suspension out of the Fairlane to be able to mock up the straight axle and start making brackets to mount it. I cut the rear arches to be able to make the rocket racing injectors and Mickey Thompson sportsman pros. The arches will be getting radiused with old oil drum lips. Thank you for reading
My 62 was built in 64 and raced up to the early seventy's . It had a Holman Moody 390 with a trypower block cracked when the stored the car for over 30 years but still have moody parts in it gone is the solid cam and block backed by the big toploader. It runs a econoline front beam and a nine inch out of a 428 Galaxie installed latter. 80% original paint with original interior 27,000 on the clock car is a time capsule my late brother bought it in 77 and sold it in 81 I bought it in 2001.
That's really cool. That's pretty much the stance I want for my Dad's car. Could I ask for pictures of how the front axle springs are mounted to the frame? thanks
