This must be a Aussie car. First thing i noticed where the wheels. Pretty sure they are "skog" wheels made by local fella Bob Skogland in the 1960s/70s. Just now something that popped up from some dark corner of my brain. I have no clue what tires are on my daily driver.

The Moon Tank in front is in the late 1960 ruling.

Due to the flash fire possibilities from previous accidents, the ruling forced all Moon Gas Tanks with/without pumps were now forced to be taken out of the cab and placed in one of two places. The trunk which was the hoped for place. But to make things easier, they allowed some to put them in front of the motor. in September 1960.

This was the best hoped for placement on the Gas Coupes and Sedans. In front of the engine, but inside of the bodywork. 1964. Still street legal as per cl*** rules. Not those race cars with the gas tanks out in front acting like a front bumper. YIKES !!!

But as the years went by in the Street Roadster and Gas Coupe Cl***, things changed. Rules were relaxed. For example, the individual header pipes into a collector then to a muffler was relaxed and now straight through headers were ok to use… So, street legal cl*** is hedging the ruling… the CHP would have had a field day with tickets for those later builds from 65 onward until they disappeared from all drag racing cl***es. Insurance companies/DMV would faint if they had to inspect all “Gas Coupe Cl***” and Street Roadster Cl***” race cars for registration.

Perhaps, the photo has to be 1965 or later and not in So Cal. The cl*** was a dying breed and they probably relaxed the rules, just to get an entry paid. Obviously, it was the end of the street legal, Street Roadster Cl***. That cl*** as well as the Sports Car Cl***, and the favored Gas Coupe/Sedan Cl*** bit the dust in favor or the top fuel race cars and introduction of the funny cars. YRMV
