I've been to every one as well, raced my T there 3 times (although the third time I sheared the end of one of my axles off on the starting line for a warm up p***, I still count it). I haven't raced my car there the last couple of years but we go every year and at least put a car in the show. It's always the Saturday of Iola. Seems like last year the flathead 4's outnumbered the flathead V8's quite a bit, they also do early motorcycle races and the Brew City G***ers always make a few p***es as well. My car was never compe***ive but it was fun to do it. It's never a huge crowd (if you show up with a qualifying car, you'll have the opportunity to make p***es) and the stuff that does show up is generally very period correct, I'd say very rare to have a car racing that anyone has to gripe over any particular parts. The cars that show up to race are generally pretty hard core, even if they're not the fastest. There are some pretty damned fast 4 banger cars though. The place is pretty cool, a decomissioned WWII airstrip in the middle of hilly Amish country. It's been going on for a while now and has stayed pretty much under the radar. There is NO drinking or camping on the track grounds which is a huge plus for me, it's never devolved into a drunken motorhome rally. A couple pics I have from a few years ago, one of my car (number seven-eighths) in the pits and another lined up against a friend's flathead powered '40 coupe that beat me pretty handily. (the '40 coupe would have been in a different cl*** usually but that year there wasn't enough cars in that cl*** so he got folded in with the other V8's)
Yes, Iola weekend…well the best Iola swap meet is Friday, Thursday, maybe even a Wednesday thing, so I guess both events are doable.
Yes Iola is not a Saturday or Sunday event anymore as far as any swap meet goes anyway.I am thinking about checking this event out for sure
