    Hello,

By the time this cool design of a truck came out, we did have a need for a truck. Our little backyard speed shop had some plans and were selling discounted parts to our friends. It was a side business if anything. During our heyday of hot rod building and drag racing, it served its purpose well. Our discount for all parts we needed were had using our business license. So, discounts were good for our savings account.

But, we could see the need to have a truck as the 58 Impala was limited in what it could hold and transport from place to place. So, we looked at several models of trucks from various dealers. My flathead 40 Ford Sedan Delivery had the back stuffed with beach stuff and it was a h***le cleaning out or even shoving the stuff over to haul parts and larger items.

So, we knew if we continued with our little speed shop, then we needed a truck.

We knew that appearances made the business grow. Word of mouth as it had been since the beginning was fine for us. Our friends were happy to have an outlet to get discounted parts for their own builds or just accessories.

The surf adventures started to expand and the auto parts business started to wane. Our friends were also getting beyond the hot rod stage and were headed for their own future lives. A lot of them went into the Marines and Army groups to stay out of the draft with no choices. At least they got to go where the chose when given the options.

The C-10 truck idea was good while it lasted and we eventually closed up shop. We even took our names off of the So Cal Auto Parts and Speed Shop list. That list turned into the first SEMA group. YRMV

But, even a chopped and lowered rake truck was still bouncing around our minds. The squarish body fit right into the parameters of a chopped top…

    Note:

By the fall of 1964, I sold the flathead 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery and the 58 Impala to purchase my own new 65 Chevy El Camino for college. So much for the C-10.

Here's a RPU I did for a local car show poster. Adobe Illustrator.
Although I find doing art of this nature very enjoyable, once again, the digital world is making this type of illustration obsolete. I had to adapt to using Illustrator (STEEP learning curve!) back in the '90s to be able to make a living, and now it seems most of our local car shows are using AI (NOT Adobe Illustrator) images to promote events, with my type of work just way too expensive. I have about 12 hours into this piece. That does not include the background imagery, or the heading and other text. So, I reckon if I continue to do it, it would just be for my own enjoyment. Yep, I hear you. People keep after me to do something again with my photos. At 79 with Parkinson's and half blind, I just don't have the energy anymore to care who sees my work or fight AI. I'll still be around, but I'll find something else to do instead of photos.

Seems you and I are neighbors. I'm in Clovis
I had a similar experience. A drag racing organization I used to do work for "back in the day", told me I needed to come out of retirement and do their t-shirt art again. He was getting his stuff done in Mexico for less than $200. I told him he should keep using the guy. At 200, it would be less than minimum wage from 10 years ago.

We've met before. at a coffee and cars Saturday at yhe old Costco lot and another show. I actually took some photos of your truck. I tend to keep a low profile since I "retired".

@Sharpone Thanks. much appreciated. I'm not looking for sympathy. It's going to happen to all of us eventually. Like Mike. I'll just piddle at stuff for my own pleasure.
