It is amazing how a photograph can spark a memory! I Googled Rockabilly Rumble East Hartford several Fotki pages came up including this photo from 04! It is of my buddy Mel Ogden's Model A. He drove all the way from Frankland NY to East Harford and had trouble just as he got to Roberts St. The show took place on 158 Roberts Street East Hartford Conn. We managed to round up enough tools to take the wheels off. We must not have found anyone with jackstands! Mel got a ride with someone with a Model A truck and took the wheels to a tire store. Dad and I took off to Advance Auto to get new lug nuts. It was Saturday afternoon and the store was packed! There were two lines dad got in one dad got in the other, the line dad was in moved much faster! As he neared the counter he realized everyone in his line was speaking Spanish as was the counterman and then saw the Spanish only sign on the counter! He turned around looked at me and mouthed "****!" as my line had barely moved at all in 15 minutes! Luckly the counterman saw dad was distressed and in English said, "I will be right with you sir"! We got back put Mel's car back together and got him home! Robert, I've had my share of memorable moments. Many of the "best" memories are of things that went wrong. Painful at the time but years later trigger laughs. Not as impactful of yours and nothing notably wrong here, I was dumb enough to run out of gas about 1/2 mile from a gas station I had just p***ed: A walk back to the station to buy a 1 gal can and contents got me back on the road. Wife not very impressed. Here's another situation where the driveshaft broke on my pickup a few miles from home and had to have it be delivered back to my home: I could go on but rest ***ured, stuff happens and it definitely happens to me.
Damned if I didn’t just find this photo of the same year, with Mel in the background at the right in front of the red primer 40 Ford Standard. If you look behind the gray primer Pontiac you can see Mel’s sedan which looks like it is back on all four wheels, so this must be after the repairs were made!
Heard this thing go by my parents house one day in the 70's, DAMN it sounded wicked. Hopped on my Schwinn and took chase, found it about 6 blocks away. Amazingly the car still exists in Eastern Iowa although not in this form.
After meeting Frank Morawski and getting to help with the Carrillo Roadster, I started to work in the ch***is shop where the Carrillo Roadster was restored. Frank brought in his dragster to start the restoration. I wanted my picture in the dragster. I was the only one not understanding what was going on behind me.
The early to mid 90’s. Both the hamb and the he-man women haters club was organize and active. A bunch of fun loving creative guys full of energy and building and repairing Hotrod’s faster than you can say….. You snot wads stole our racer! And Butch's "Finders keepers, losers ****!" Good times. When we were as a group young and energetic.
A recent memory but a memorable one. Oxford Maine hot-lapping 3 rounds of eliminations. Lost in the finals against this quick roadster from the Saints
The photograph only captures a single moment in time...but "sparks" all the memories of time, people and events surrounding that moment.
Dad and I Christmas 1983 I am 2 years old. I still have the hardhat and impact tool toy... Dad and I Those two photos spark a lifetime of memories!
19 years old??? (me on the right) first rewire front to back. For being a 17ish years old Nova at the time, the wiring was hacked something bad. Still have the bug to mess with wiring to this day.
Memories of "not a care in the world" 1969. A 17 year old, pot smoking, beer drinking, long haired hippy hotrodjack with a loud obnoxious hot rod...I pretty much "checked all the boxes" for the local cops in my small town
This just popped into my mind about this. David the owner of the Nova had me using his brother’s Weller soldering gun since my Dad would not allow me to take tools away from home. Well David gave me that solder gun and I still have it.
