Ok, so I was emptying my display cases so I could add lights to them (I know I have always been a little *** backwards) and I never noticed this before. Here are 2 center caps for Cragar SS wheels. Neither one has the registered trademark insignia so that means 1964. Just look at the diameter difference? I wonder if the small one was used on the 4” bolt circle mopar wheels? Does anyone know for sure?
From my research it sounds like the 13 and maybe 14 Cragars had smaller center caps the 1966 Dodge D Darts came with special Cragar SS mags. I believe the D Dart is the only factory car to come with Cragar SS Wheels. They were 14 inch. Dan
What diameter is the small one Mark? There are examples Here: https://www.google.com/search?q=cra...LjcuNi4yyAeQAYAIAA&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-img
I'll measure the caps on the 14" x 6" Cragars on my 62 Valiant which I got brand new in 1966. Will let you know after lunch.
It does make sense the smaller bolt patterns would have smaller caps, I can say my unilug 14” have the same caps as my 15”, so it’s not simply a diameter thing
Mark, the 5X4 BVD pattern is probably the most likely. I'd think you have catalogs to check for other small import bolt patterns. 4 inch is 101.6 mm and I know there are some 100 mm PCDs. https://tirewheelguide.com/pcd/4x100/ https://tirewheelguide.com/pcd/5x100/ Sorry I'm not an expert on Cragars, but this might answer your question.
Those are not the caps being discussed. The original Cragar S/S caps are in question. I’ll measure mine in the morning.
Mark, measured 2 of the caps on my Valiant and they measure 2.842" by my dial vernier, so that's close enough to your rule measurement of 2 7/8".
