I took a few mild winters here in Kentucky for granted. I don't think my torpedo heater will knock the chill off 9° in the garage.

No ****. By the time the shop woodstove gets her up to about 50 I might be ready to go to the house. Biggest project is in machine shop jail anyway.

It is supposed to be in the 60’s again here next week. So, hoping today is the last day that I have to freeze my **** off in the shop.

IMG_0801.jpeg This is what it looks like outside my house today, and this picture was taken a couple of days ago. No change. We have a heat wave going today. It’s 17 degrees outside! Woo hoo, shorts and t shirt weather! Next to the fireplace!

And my heater won’t even take the frost off of stuff in the garage. Fortunately it is only expected to last for about another week or two…

Its pretty much been a "normal" winter here, maybe about 15 degrees colder this year, but so far we have seen less snow then normal. Its 24 degrees, about the warmest its been for about 3 weeks.

Our winter often rolls in with a big snow storm around Thanksgiving (this year was got 12") but that is often gone by Christmas (was this year too). The lows are generally in the teens and 20s, highs near 30. We usually get about a week (or two) where the temps make it below zero. The last few years we get a Jan thaw towards the end of the month where the temps could make it into the low 40s for a week or two (the Jan thaw was at the end of Dec rather then at the end of Jan this year). Feb and March can bring pretty much anything from below zero to into the 50s (maybe even the same week).
I've lived here all of my 69 years. but, yea, I'm already tired of winter for this year. Ain't planning on moving, we have the stuff to handle the winters here. I do feel sorry for you guys that live in places that are not prepared for this stuff.

  10. When it gets below 68 degrees I'm done. LOL. This winter has had some mild days along with a cold snap but nothing like decades ago. However, everything I like to do is better with warm or hot weather so if I lived somewhere that winter lasted less than a week, that would be great. I had the snow blower out once but that was the 1st time in several years. All I have done is shovel for a while.

We've had consistently sub-zero temperatures here in Northern Europe since the beginning of January,
    which is unusual.
People are saying that in Finland, even the top ****on of a jacket is now being ****oned. :D

    This is the story behind it, which is often told during our cold winters;
we have great respect for the Scandinavian countries,
don't let it spoil your good mood.
    The Story:
What does a Sami person do when it gets cold?

+10 degrees Celsius: Residents of apartments in Helsinki turn off their heating. Sami people (inhabitants of Lapland) plant flowers.

+5 degrees Celsius: Sami people sunbathe, if the sun is still above the horizon.

+2 degrees Celsius: Italian cars won't start.

    0 degrees Celsius: Water freezes.

-1 degree Celsius: Breath becomes visible. Time to plan a Mediterranean vacation. Sami people eat ice cream and drink cold beer.

-4 degrees Celsius: The cat wants to come to bed.

-10 degrees Celsius: Time to plan an African vacation. Sami people go swimming.

-12 degrees Celsius: Too cold to snow.

-15 degrees Celsius: American cars won't start.

-18 degrees Celsius: Helsinki homeowners turn on their heating.

-20 degrees Celsius: Breathing becomes audible.

-22 degrees Celsius: French cars won't start. Too cold for ice skating.

-23 degrees Celsius: Politicians begin to feel sorry for the homeless.

-24 degrees Celsius: German cars won't start.

-26 degrees Celsius: You can cut building material for igloos from your breath.

-29 degrees Celsius: The cat wants to get under your pajamas.

-30 degrees Celsius: No real car will start. The Sami curses, kicks the tire, and starts his Lada.

-31 degrees Celsius: Too cold to kiss; lips freeze together. Lapland's football team begins training for spring.

-35 degrees Celsius: Time to plan a two-week hot bath. The Sami shovel snow off the roof.

-39 degrees Celsius: Mercury freezes. Too cold to think. The Sami ****on up their top shirt ****on.

-40 degrees Celsius: The car wants to come to bed. The Sami put on a sweater.

-44 degrees: A Finnish colleague considers closing the office window.

-45 degrees: The Sami close the bathroom window.

-50 degrees: The sea lions leave Greenland. The Sami swap their gloves for mittens.

-70 degrees: The polar bears leave the North Pole. A cross-country skiing trip is organized at the University of Rovaniemi (Lapland).

-75 degrees: Santa Claus leaves the Arctic Circle. The Sami pull down the ear flaps of their hats.

-120 degrees: Alcohol freezes. Result: The Sami is angry.

    -268 degrees: Helium becomes liquid.

    -270 degrees: Hell freezes over.

-273.15 degrees: Absolute zero. No movement of elementary particles. The Sami admits: "Yeah, it's a bit chilly, give me another shot of schnapps to **** on."

We were in southern Florida last week. It was 49 F on our last day in the Keys. Up to WPB... 53 and rain. We cut it short by a day, it was supposed to snow yesterday and we feared being stranded.

Back home Friday... 17. Yesterday morning... 2. Today a balmy 11...

Our biggest and only winter swapmeet was today, alarm went off, I looked at the temp on my phone and it said 8*, I rolled over and stayed in the warm bed.
This winter has been a cold one with weeks of windchill below zero and temps struggling to reach double digits, currently at 6pm it's 8* with a windchill of -7*
Having to snowblow and shovel every freaking day in that cold I have no ambition to go into the garage that I keep heated at 53*
Heck I've got to take an hour drive to warm the car up so the pizza n wings don't get cold on the 10 minute drive back home.

Has anyone seen the Yarbo? It’s a Roomba for your yard. It has attachments for your lawn, mowers, leaf blower, and string trimmer, a snow plow blade for heavy wet snow, and a snowblower attachment. I just saw it while reading the news. Not inexpensive, but then neither is a heart attack.

I told SWMBO that I have to get one… lead balloon. Oh well, guess I’ll just have to sell some stuff before next winter

I saw a little robot deal mowing golf course greens this summer. Was fascinating for a minute, figured everybody but me knew about em.

  21. Yesterday I was in the deep freezer. This afternoon it hit 68 degrees and I washed the 48 and had the bike out. Who knows what the next few days will be. :)

Couple years ago I was searching for a new snowblower when I had some issues with the old one during a 4ft dumping of snow. I seen this Ariens 28 SHO that said it would throw 12 inches of snow 55ft, SOLD ! My driveway apron is 50ft wide and I can only move snow in one direction, 55ft sounded perfect. It cost a little over 2 grand but man it can throw some snow, it creates whiteouts if I'm not paying attention to where it's pointed. Lol
