I had an aluminum bellhousing split like that in a 70 road runner and the stupid pistol grip shifter about beat me to death before I could get stopped. o_O
I bought a blowproof to replace it.

I've got another one hanging on the wall now from a 70 gTx that I noticed had a big crack when I first got the car. So I sent the bell off to be TIGged, but when I got it back none of the holes lined up (h/t J. Cash) so I ended up sending Lakewood more money.

I had a friend back in the seventies that had a fairly new Monty Carlo that he used to think doing
Texas Js was fun until he split the transmission down the center along the casting flash…

Without the British Army, which got Volkswagen back on its feet,
it would have been just a footnote in history.

Josef Ganz created the concept. Worth looking up if you want the story. Let's not give the worst guy in history the credit.

Nothing to do with the 3rd Reich gets a p*** at all here with Ryan. This thread is supposed to be amusing. I'm sure we can get it back on track...
There are some who don't think BBC's are pretty. But a breadbox sure dolls 'em up!

That made me chuckle, I'm a GM guy, SBC, first one 265 in 64 and just about every configuration since to this day with some BBC thrown in. Rear main seal leak is a given, I thought the new 1 piece rear main seal should be better, not so, I have a mint low mile cl***ic 89 Camaro, rag top 305 FI, not really surprised rear main is leaking, getting on the clutch. I have a Eldorado with Northstar 4.6 leaks oil, another GM Engineering masterpiece. It's a good thing they did make alot of good engines and cars, IMO SBC tops that list.

Another story about leaking oil. My wife and I were cruising IOLA thinking about getting her a car. We had a price range in mind, the choice was her's, So.......... walking she spots a beautiful 51 Buick Roadmaster, This was making her tickle big time, I knew we were buying it, now I just work out the details, Seller states complete restoration of a rust free Texas car. It was beautiful stately type car, pic att. So........ I noticed underside trans oil every where, No underside rust on this beauty. we drove it, everything seem good, I drove it home, thinking, pull ****** and have it rebuilt, OK I only found 2 Guys that still will do a dynaflow #1 pull and send, $6000 3-6 month delivery time. #2 $7500, pull and send 4-5 month delivery. Hmmm. Then I found a cl***ic Buick business in New Jersey? I buy a Buick manual on Dynaflow and the rear seal kit, book $100, seal kit and misc $300. Read the book, get the car on the lift, block it up, to disconnect stuff, have to roll rear end ***embly back, car had an enclosed driveline. replacing the seal was not bad, did in car on lift, all the other was a PIA, put it all back together, Magic, she can drive her car. we kept it for 5 years, I did redo the complete brake system, It needed an engine rebuild as it was a re gasket, spray paint rebuild. We deside to sell as I was starting the age/health fun and the straight 8 parts rebuild kit was $3000. The car was beautiful, sold it for what we had in $ wise and I told buyer about the engine deal., he was not concerned. The positive, her smiles, she PXL_20250730_112604317.jpg won many trophies, she enjoyed the cruises, talking with people about the car. The only negative car was a PIA for me

  28. While we are on oil leaks, a gag we liked to pull when we were young- Someone at work buys a new car, telling everyone at every opportunity how good the fuel mileage is (remember those days?), how fast it will go, and how well-built and fantastic it is. The guy flips when a bird ****s on it, and has to put it through a car wash- that kind of guy.
Time to get out the gallon of sump oil, and pour it on the ground under his engine, while his car is in the work car park. Then sit back and watch the fireworks when he sees the oil spill that afternoon!

Have you been coming to my house and dumping the oil under my wife's car?
