Mike at Snyder Street Rods in Hastings NE.is getting back on the stretched deuce roadster. I stopped by today and he had the body on the frame and shining like the bare metal roadster we just sold. Andy's Restoration did an outstanding job of stretching the p***enger compartment and doors 2.25 inches, looks factory and should make getting in and out easier and the extra legroom will be welcome. Not an original idea, I followed Henry at Steadfast when he did his. Mike will fit all the sheet metal, prep and paint then ***emble everything for the final time. I'm fortunate to have the talent available to help do my last couple cars. Goal is for myself and a friend (combined age 167) to hopefully drive this last roadster the 3600 mile round trip to the 60th LARS next year? In these pictures you can see how Andy shortened the quarters behind the doors, stretched the doors, the outer door skin was stretched by adding to the rear of the doors, the shortened upper deck panel and re rolled the front door corners into the cowl like a 35/6 roadster. The side view looks like nothings changed. More coming.
Frank Curries was extended also I like his idea. There was a fibergl*** one for a time the Dearborn Duece I believe. It even had a lift pocket behind the seating area…. I didn’t think much of it. Yes please post photos if you can of the body in steel!
In the above pictures you can see how Mike at Snyder Street Rods worked the inner edges of the rear fenders on his English Wheel for a tighter fit and tightened up the rear frame horn covers. He's cut and rewelded both hood tops for fit & gap. The Brookville body tends to dip in slightly at the rear door jam and interrupt the side flow. Mike works the gaps to smooth the body side flow from front to rear. You can see where he smoothed the transition of the front door corners into the cowl top (like a 35/36 roadster). The steering column is an Ididit 40 Ford column shift with a 5 inch Lime Works drop..Currently working on windshield fit then finish the hood and a few other miscellaneous things and it should be ready to blow apart for paint. The ch***is & exhaust is all fabricated. Most everything underneath will be powder painted satin black with the exception of some stainless front and rear end parts. Thanks for looking. I'll be back.
Nice follow up Gary, Andy is quite the craftsman after all as I recall, he played a significant part in the first all hand built 32 3 w coupes, plenty of years of experience behind this guy.
Mike is in the home stretch finishing the sheet metal work. Gaps look good and fabrication is finished. May blow it apart this weekend for epoxy primer. He fabed the front splash apron because the available ones had a poor fit and were flimsy. The Pete Eastwood dropped headlight bar was a good fit. He did have to m***age the outer corners of the front fenders to match the running boards. The early 32 style hood hooks really do the job. Needs to get the seat & seat belts bolted down. Also relocate the Vintage Air heater closer to the middle of the firewall. Still struggling with the windshield, on the 3rd pair of lower stanchions. We'll begin prepping the body parts for paint (80 GMC Wheatland Yellow) and everything underneath satin black with Stainless highlight pieces. Wheels are satin black with stainless spokes. Also a black Bop Top, one of the last. More pictures in a couple weeks,
I like the way you think. Get 'er done and drive her across this great country. Beautiful approach and outstanding progress. I hope you are able to cruise to the GNRS and have a memorable time. This year was incredible, the cars of course are mind boggling, but some of the people were as well. I told Stanley Chavik I was glad he came to America which he seemed to appreciate. He proudly announce that he has earned his citizenship along with his lovely wife and young son. We high fived. Great dude and a pretty cool moment. I chatted up Jo Coddington as I noticed she was pointing to the HOF listings of Blackie Gejeian and Richard Peters. Both Fresnonians, I asked (before I figured out who she was) how connected she was to Blackie and Richard. We had a great conversation, she couldn't have been more engaging and charming. Really a surprise how generous she was with her time.
Interested in your comment. I added a similar brace to my United Pacific 32-5W body and my fibergl*** 32-5W has one which was fitted by the manufacturer. In the OP's case being a roadster the extra rigidity would be good as it doesn't have the added rigidity provided by the roof but I gather that you feel that it would help on a coupe body also.
