Before speed could be bought over the counter or by paying someone else to do it for you a lot of this kind of thing was done with way less sophisticated welders than we have today. Chevy 4s and Model A Fords had counter weights welded on the cranks. Rods were lengthened welding pieces in. Chevy 4s had plates screwed to the top of the pistons to raise compression. And yes stroker cranks were built. It didn't always work and sometimes it was ugly. Of course rpms were a lot lower too.

64 I was cruising and street racing having a ton of fun. My neighbor had an Impala SS, 409/425 HP 4 speed car, red, named "Freight Train" fast and a Very successful street racer. The wife's name was Carol, 5' tall 100# and a cutie pie, she rowed the gears, he collected the $$$. Picture this, cute little blond, hunched over the wheel, a fierce compe***or, even when very pregnant, they had the baby, stopped racing, moved, I never saw them again. I never saw her loose, they were $100 races, I was in the $10/$20 cl*** as I knew where I stood, picked my races carefully, to me $20 was a lot of money. Street racing was huge in Milwaukee Wi. at this time, very organized, Police seemed to look the other way in beginning but the fatalities blossomed, police got serious and pretty much shut it down by 70 and many including me, spent a night in a holding cell and my street racing career was over, I got in my Dad's Midget racer, That started 21 years of fun, many stories in that chapter of my life. The HAMB, AM coffee, brings up many memories.

I don't have a Pic to post but in my many years and miles I have seen plenty of that kind of Stupid. I am very thankful to have a brain and some common sense, that gene seems to be going away IMO. "You Can't fix Stupid" or "Stupid is as Stupid Does"

I owned and ran a Tool & Die/Pattern shop for 36 rears and the practical jokes/pranks happened in the early years. One the best kids I ever trained, served his apprenticeship in my shop. He was a Harley guy, built his bikes chopper style, he had a key to my shop, I allowed him to work after hours to make his parts, extended front ends, frame mods, etc. Really Kool stuff, I rode his bike, hard tail, mile long front, POS IMO, I rode dresser style bikes. He had the motor done at some big name Harley shop, he installed and was happy with it, he rode his bike to work so it was just sitting there and I put a few drops of oil under it, then a little more and he was upset to say the least, I owed him one as this **** was an ongoing deal, I took him in the office, calmed him down and apologized then we had a shop meeting, No More pranks, it got out of hand.( my fault, my shop. I'm in charge.) I wanted my shop to be the shop employees wanted to work for and did many things that were never done at the shops I worked for. After many years and employees, that pretty much stopped.
