I liked it but I get the apprehension. That set the return back a bit I'm sure. At least the was no injuries to those in the car...

    Hello,

The term “out for a Sunday drive” seems appropriate for this photo. While the Midwest and Eastern parts of the USA are getting pelted with freezing cold and snowy weather, the So Cal coastal area is blue sky and blue ocean between the rain storms that have been hitting the coast. But, the the weather clearing and storms no longer in So Cal, we begin to see our favorites having a nice time on the local streets.

We have been driving by this particular area since 1959-60. There used to be a short pier at this particular intersection out in the water to the right side of the photo. It had good waves and we had fun. But, the coastal weather is brutal. The pier got its last bashing from the large waves/tides, so it got destroyed and finally removed. But, a block or so outside, the famous reef still has large waves during certain swells and tide conditions.

Of course, my wife sees a “different” object ahead, down the road. A**** the large SUV and vans, this good looking Corvette was sitting at a stop light. She could see the “older” gentleman driving and mentioned that the Corvette was probably “his baby" perfectly picked out for a cruise along the coastline. What more can one ask?

It was not a loud, obnoxious exhaust note when we rolled down our windows. Just a normal motor sound accelerating away at the stop light. For the old guy in an old car, it was a light throttle and acceleration down the coastal highway. Tunes? Who needs tunes when the motor and road give the driver all he/she needs… YRMV

  3. It took me a long time to find this pic in my collection. I forgot which year it happened. :) DSC00493.JPG

It was over 30 years ago, but here ya go:

This was taken on 35mm film somewhere south of Kansas City after our visit to Weld Wheels. On our way to Springfield, MO, going to the first R&C Americruise in '93. That dot in front of me is Steve Osborn; known on here as "weeds". He and his son Jack are in Steve's '29 roadster pickup with no top on it. Steve always said that in his RPU in the rain that the faster he went the drier he stayed. I snapped this pic while driving Clarence and we were traveling at around 85 mph.

b-t-w; this was the shakedown run after chopping the top. I had a windshield but no door gl*** yet. It's quite possible that Steve and Jack stayed drier than me.
