thats a cool thing having that couple drop in, I bet you made them smile & reminisce about the old days.
great work & perseverance on those brakes, when you depress the pedal & pull up at a stop sign or lights for the first time I bet you'll remember all the work it took

Great story on your visitors to the garage! I hope you can give them both a ride and maybe an autographed picture of the moment. Keep one for yourself, too.

You might try smoothing & softening the copper washer with heat so it will better conform to the other surfaces.

I'll be 81 in June. I'm reading a book about growing up in Happy Texas in the '50s -'60s by a guy that graduated in '64 two years behind one of my cousins and two years ahead of his little brother. I was in CA by then but did grades 1-8 in Canyon a few mile north of Happy. My dad graduated from Happy High in the '30s and was living there when He died. There are mentions in the book of cars and motor scooters and just life as it was in small town America in those times. Stricter rules but more freedom? I bet you do remind those old folks some pleasant times.

Hey @Six Ball , not to take away from Joey’s thread, but having been in that area several times and having a mild affinity with west Texas and Texas history in general, would you mind sharing the book name and/or author? I’d appreciate it.

Hi all, checking in on a Friday night from my living room with a cold beer in hand. It's been a long, busy, but productive week.

On Wednesday, I pulled the header caps so I could clean up and paint the hardware. Unfortunately my square-headed bolts I ordered from half way around the world were the wrong size, so I'm going to whip these into shape.

Next, I stepped into the paint booth to get the exhaust clamps ready for showtime. Note the bridge off in the distance.

As I was winding down my workday today, I got a text from Yama that he was on his way. Wasting no time, I rushed to the auto parts store on the motorcycle to pick up two more bottles of brake fluid (one in each pocket). Next thing I knew, I was in the driver's seat with my foot on the brake pedal.

One. Two. Three. Hold. One. Two. Three. Hold. Bubbles. One. Two. Three. Hold. No bubbles. (Repeat 4x)

For the next 45 minutes or so, we bled the brakes. Yama checked for leaks, cracking the bleeder while keeping the conversation moving. I was nervous, but Yama remained positive. We worked our way through all four brakes, whispering as we went along. When we were finished, the pedal pressure felt great and, as far as we could tell, there were no leaks. We went to dinner and upon return, that was still the case. I plan to check again in the morning.

I'm going to bed feeling a little on edge, but overall relieved from our night in the garage. Did it really work? I'd like to think so. Either way, I had a great night with one of my best friends who has been a huge help on this car since day zero.

No photos from tonight, but here's one Nic shot in the summer of 2024.

So, what's next? First, I'll swap the LF brake shoes back to the arced, riveted ones. Then it'll be time for cotter pins on the hubs and torquing of front lug nuts. Zerks will get greased, driver's side muffler will get installed, then, well, I don't know.

I mean, I do know. I asked Yama to bring my "Less Honkin', More Tonkin'" gas can next time he comes over—because we're going to try to fire up and drive this thing.

Ooh looking forward to the next step. This is a great thread to follow. Having to work with no noise must be a pain though. Mart.

I am really looking forward to viewing some cool GoPro or cell phone footage of your car fired up and being driven around powered by the V8 flathead!

Have Yama look it over before you pour the gas in. Fresh set of eyes and all.
I'd also stomp on the pedal like you mean it a time or two.

I would suggest a Before and After shot of your smile, but you are going to be grinnin' the whole time. :D
