Got the pained grill shell installed. Just ding some general clean up, polishing the wheels, and making sure the battery is charged up, getting ready for GNRS later this week. 20260124_171214.jpg

Nice, Tim! It has to be sturdy when you stomp the gas.

I don't know yet. Looks like it might need two sleeves, might not be worth messing with.

  18. I took advantage of 76-degree Monday and pulled the AOD to replace the seal. I think I got it, thanks to Saltflats and others who suggested punching out the old seal instead of pulling the pump. I got the trans married to the engine, tightened the torque converter nuts to the flex plate, getting ready to finish ***embly when the next warm(ish) day rolls around. Several things I've noticed during this annoying little exercise: The trans jack has raised the engine/transmission a little higher than it sits at stock height and the fan is just touching the bottom of the radiator, so I'll have to watch that closely once I lower the trans jack to re-install the trans crossmember; I noticed that the hose connecting the vacuum brake booster has come loose from the tube coming off the back of the intake, which explains why my power brakes weren't powering up; in using the starter to turn the engine so I could mesh the flex plate and torque converter studs I noticed that the carburetor was leaking at the transfer tubes so I've ordered new O-rings to stop the leak; in pulling down the temporary exhaust plumbing to remove the transmission, I noticed that a hose between the trans cooler and the cooler in the lower tank of the radiator was slightly burnt from touching the hot pipe, so re-routed that; while under the engine/transmission I noticed that oil was weeping from the drain plug on the oil pan. I'll see if NAPA has a new one. Wrapping the old one with Teflon tape wasn't getting it.
If once I get this back together the transmission doesn't leak, I should be well on my way to big progress on other aspects of this project. If it still leaks, I'm back to pulling it down, then taking it to a transmission guy I can rely on and paying him to solve the issue.

@squirrel - That looks like a forged crank, good stuff! Small or large journal?

Got this off a 1937 ford truck sitting in a ditch; so I could try and save it and see how they work. It was very rusty but after a few weeks, I got it all working. IMG_3233.jpeg
