History The ultimate NOS part find

We went to the k'zoo swap meet today and this guy had hood from a 49 Nash still in its original wood and banding wire crate. The way he was talking that his dad had about 30 acres of old junk cars and I'm guessing this was probably hiding in a building forgotten for a life time.

 

It’s neat, and rare, but is it the ultimate?

 

There's a reason it was never used, the car it goes to ugly. Years ago I had a '42 NOS Chevy front fender . I could hardly give it away.

 

A lot of N.O.S.parts are rare but not desirable.

I would think if you needed it for your project it would be the holy grail! HRP

 

The crate is really cool. A Nash fan will buy it for that, where else can you find one?
It's just remarkable to exist at all.

 

Ultimate would be a matter of opinion but that is a rare find!

That does not look like a 49 hood to me.

 

Might be a truck hood.

 

Saw a "GM Hydromatic" neon sign in the original crate, for sale at Iola 20 years ago.

This is a '49 Nash. That hood is not going on this car. Also, the crate is like a foot taller than the hood that's inside it, which is pretty odd. Neat crate, but I'm curious to know what that hood actually is for. Maybe 39-40 Nash, no way it's a '49.

 

^^^ '40 or so looks more likely; but a pretty limited customer base.

 

Probably a truck hood like lo-buk said.

 

The sides on the truck hoods are super deep, especially up against the cowl, and the one in the crate seems to have very shallow sides, I really don't think it's a truck hood.
