My car club and I decided to cruise down from Live Oak to Newberry FL for the Blues n BBQ car show that is great every year, I did not expect to come across such an awesome survivor car, Olds rocket with a LaSalle trans, VERY COOL!
Thankyou, HAMB, my am coffee, memories Pop in my old brain. My first cruising events around 10 years old, 1958. A friend's Mom was dating a guy with an Oldsmobile like that, took us cruising and for ice cream at Leon's. Red and a hot rod, noisy as hell, remember chrome wheels, fat tires on back, we cruised Mitchell St, I loved it. cruised to Leon's Myself starting 1964, Famous custard stand and car hang out. 1960 a neighbor home from service, took me cruising 57 Chevy, and rides on his Harley, remember the shifter on the gas tank. I Grew up in a racing family and all these events, WICARNUT Hmmmm, my first car 57 Chevy at 16, cruised at 16, street raced, raced dizzy track dirt 21 years, and had motorcycles 35 years or so. I'm a very lucky man.
One of my buddies growing up was given his older brothers '50 Olds fastback. '55 324 and LaSalle we all loved the car. He got rear ended at a stop sign and the crash wadded up the rear sheetmetal. He and his brother found a '49 fastback in a wrecking yard and grafted the sheetmetal to the body. No bondo and perfect finish welded with a minor amount of lead. Kept the '49 tail lights and color matched the paint. '49 and '50 Olds coupes , sedans, ragtops and fastbacks are beautiful and my family being related to Ransom E Olds someone always owned a Oldsmobile.
I saw that car at a cruise-in in Inverness, FL about a month ago, Don Garlits was there also with his 42 Ford Coupe. It was an event to remember, took lots of pictures.
