Awesome, man. Love it! I still kick myself in the **** for selling my 4-71 and Navarro blower intake. What a mistake!

On your post, there's an "edit" ****on next to the date & time at the bottom. You can fix it.

I picked up a Merc engine last night out of a 53 Mercury 2 ton. I going to pull the heads today and make sure it’s not just a set of Merc heads on a 239… depending on condition, this may be the engine I build. My plan is Merc crank, cam, milled EAB heads or edelbrock heads, 4bbl intake. Also this new engine has the right front engine mounts for my 53.

Pretty sure I know why the truck this came out of was parked in 1971…

Both valves are closed and the other cylinders look pretty good.

Head gasket? Maybe cracked head? Detonation? That piston is completely corroded and it filled the head cavity too.

Ideas what would have caused this? I may be just using the crank in my other block after all. Let’s see if I can get this freed up.

We could speculate until the cows come home, but that won't really help. This engine had that problem a LOOOONNNG time ago. Glad you got your crank, now it's time to punch out a block! It looks like that crank is near the end of its life with rod journals already ground 0.030". Van Pelt has bearings and everything you need to get it back together.

    Keep us posted.
