I finally got both axles in. What a pain in the ***. I need 2 new controller arm brackets and it will be ready to terrorize East Baltimore

 

My old control arm bracket was, to say the least, a real piece of ****. So, with the new 4:10 gears, I decided to build a completely different control arm bracket. Once the final drive was in place, I got to work with some thick wall tubing and some 1”x 2” rectangle tubing. The first picture shows our original idea. The second picture shows the finished brackets today.

 

With the 10-bolt diff cover instead of 8, I think that'd make it a 68-78? Just my guess.

 

78 was the last year for the TH425

 

After some finish welding and powder coating, it came out exactly as planned. For those of you thinking this is ********, let me explain. While functioning as a control arm bracket, it is really just the camber adjustment. There is no lateral movement in this setup. Unlike the Corvair and Corvette setup where everything has a twist factor built in. This is trailing arm up and down only movement. Anyway, here is how it looked after installation

Beat the hell out of the rear suspension this afternoon. I need to buy stock in a tire company…seems they might be short lived
It is super quick. Scared the hell out me in a short few minutes. I put it back on the lift for one more round of tightening everything. I was super pleased with how everything worked and the fact that nothing had changed. Might be early but so far, so good !!!

That guy started out up on Foothill in Upland - when they kicked him out he moved south. It came to an end in 1991:
The majority of the 120 Corvairs in Jim Phillips' collection that were seized by San Bernardino County authorities in late 1991 were likely crushed or sold for s****.
Phillips was unable to afford the escalating towing and storage fees of over $10 per car per day. Although the county initially considered an auction because the cars might have special value, a county representative indicated the sale would only be open to dismantlers, and the vehicles would have to be sold for s**** metal.
Phillips managed to save at least one Corvair pickup truck by moving it before the county's operation began, and hoped to save several others, but it is implied most of the collection was lost to the s**** yard. The cars, which had fallen into disrepair and been vandalized while sitting on a vacant lot in Montclair, were towed to an impound lot in Fontana. Phillips had a 30-day period to reclaim them, which he could not afford

Picking at it! But progress, none the less.

 

Making modifications.
All that carpeting….DOA. glue just ate the back away.
Should do a shout out to the chimney wrap foil backed asphalt pressure sensitive makers. Had to use my Brenzo matic and a few putty knives.
Now visible on both sides of the car, frame connectors.
Tomorrow, the roll cage gets installed.

 

Had a bunch of fun today. The holes for the roll bar have been drilled into the frame connectors. While thinking about our next step, it dawned on me that I had bought a 300 piece header modeling kits….sort of like yellow legos . What a dream to work with. We wanted to hide the back down bars and the pieces allowed us to actually build the back down bars with the yellow stuff. It turned out beautiful

Still more progress on the roll bars. Next will be the swing out bars by the doors

Got the cross bar in place. I made it so I could remove it to get to the engine

Hello,

Your photos may have changed the ***le or moved from the photo file on your computer to another file. If the original folder on your computer or slight "space" just happens to be on description of the new position photo, then this:
will show up.
Also, sometimes your phone camera will take the photo and it is on your pictures folder. but, it will not transfer due to the photo being too large for the computer to acknowledge. you will have to save the photo to your computer and resize it smaller and save with the name you want. Try not to keep the long numerical label the camera/phone gives the photo taken.

Most of the time, folks like posting photos from the phones as they are quick and handy. But, they also don't allow a person to judge the size of the photo for posting and also, sometimes the phone has moved slightly and the photo is blurry. so, take the photo any way you can. then allow your laptop or home desktop computer to use their built in photo program to show you what you need to do to make the color nice and not blurry. and to make sure your photos are in focus.

One last thing is that with your computer or laptop programs, you can edit out the unnecessary "looky loos" or other cars in the photos. YRMV
