This is being put out there as an opportunity to shout out to a Hamb member who has helped you out. Seems almost like a given but sometimes it helps to have an opportunity to say "Thanks, I really appreciate what you did for me." It can be scoring some elusive part, putting in the hours on a project or anything else that helped someone out. I would like to thank Stogy for helping me with a shipment that I couldn't have done on my own. We have never met but when I reached out and explained my dilemna, he was all in. When the shipment seemed to be MIA he was engaged like it was his own. Ultimately the story had a happy ending. Thanks Stogy! If you have someone on the HAMB who has saved your bacon, take the opportunity to shine a little light on them.

Well, @Stogy has been working overtime on knocking out the rivets on a 1920 Chev ch***is for me. Has left me with almost nothing left to do. lol!

  3. Saltflats has helped me through an AOD rebuild, troubleshooting and eventual startup of a 351W and running down a leaky transmission. Whether it is lending me a special tool or figuring out what I might have missed, he's come through time and again.
Moriarty, Sharpone, Lumpy 63 and a long list of other HAMB brothers have sustained me through more than a decade, when all of my mechanically inclined friends have p***ed on. To say I'm grateful hardly covers how I feel. Last week my CT scan showed that I'm cancer free for going on six years. A week from today I turn 77. In June I will have been working on this '29 AA hotrod project for 52 years. I'll have it on the road this summer because a lot of great HAMB members have my back.

The HAMB is an amazing community for sure. So many ppl here have helped me out but one guy really stands out. Even though he’s no longer here with us, FAB32 stands out for me. 2006. Detroit Autorama. Never EVER thought I’d have a car there. Young, broke, new young family. He urged me to take The Peter Beater. I couldn’t afford it. He payed for me and my wife and 2 yr old daughter to go. I really miss that guy. He was one of thee best ppl I’ve ever had in my life.

I want to thank almost all of the HAMB family for their knowledge and help. When I had a accident with my coupe years ago many members reached out to me offering help and parts. This proves that the members here are truly good people, sticking together . Thank you all. The HAMB is a very special place and I am grateful to be a part of it.

My good people is Alchemy, I needed a radio delete plate for my 40 and he just mails me a nice one for free. I can't say how good that made me feel. It would be wonderful to meet him someday.

  7. @DeltaBravo(DB) has been instrumental in help for me with my Buick projects. Really good people. @rockable has also been one of my good people.

I think Matt Field @Hitchhiker has been one of the most helpful persons I have encountered here on the H.A.M.B.
And to a lot of hot rod people out there.

I want to thank @Ryan , @corncobcoupe and especially @Moriarity for hosting and keeping the guardrails on, putting up with my posts and presence. I have been calmly and gently guided back onto the defined path a few times.
@squirrel has been an amazing font of knowledge for myself and many others. I stumbled through some pretty basic stuff early in the latest project and he provided the correct answers and guidance. Oh, and he sent a part that got it on the road. One of the few I have met in person. An example of how we should all try to be. Thank you, Jim. You really helped me get this far.
I also had another member send me a part I ended up not needing and shipping back. Very generous and helpful, but it simply confirmed
I didn't know what I didn't know. I forget who it was now, I've gone thru my old PMs and can't find a mention. Another champ who shall due to my own thoughtlessness go nameless. It was very appreciated.
I know I can count on @VANDENPLAS to ID some really esoteric stuff and expand my own ability to nail down early Mopars and others. Many others would fit this too.
I also need to mention @J.Ukrop. I haven't crossed paths with him in MOD terms, but his build thread and car exemplify the ethos of a HAMB build to me. I try to give my 2 cents, but he would still be chugging away in that little garage without all the voices on the net.
There are a ton of impressive builds here. Stuff that goes beyond safe, clean and fast into another level. I don't aspire to even attempt those levels, I am more of a 2 outta 3 and drive it guy. But it is educational, entertaining and enlightening. I won't name anyone, I'm sure to miss many and I don't want this to be edited daily for the next month and run 2 pages. If you are proud of your work and have received thumbs up from others, consider yourself in this group.
Then there are those that truly make silk purses out of sow's ears. I can't look at a 34 coupe in Black without wondering if it's 3-5 cars crafted into one. @flamedabone you are an inspiration in ability and drive.
There are a few that seem to have pictures for every day of the week and twice on Sunday. They provide visuals that nail down details of a vast amount of history and style. Those do***ents are invaluable for research. People, if you are going to build a Henway, just start grabbing all the pics you can to help define your vision, down to the clocking of cotter pins.

Gotta mention a couple a couple co-conspirators in T-Buckets, @Tim_with_a_T and @Dave G in Gansevoort. We carry on PMs here walking thru What-Ifs on anything from mulch to jetting. Going to mention @BigJoeArt here too for inspiration.
Going to mention @41 GMC K-18 for personal reasons. Carry on, brother.

@Bangingoldtin , Bill has been very helpful to me with my nailhead projects. @Fat47 , Walt and @BJR , Brian were very helpful to me with my 49 Buick project. I'm sure there are others that i can't recall off the top of my head.

@ne'erdowell, thanks for the kind words...glad that little nail-biter worked out...Honestly my experience here has been overall just a group of solid decent Hambers...couple burps and farts here and there but you all make this experience that is the Hamb something that I'll cherish till I can't anymore...;)

@Ziggster it was rust belt excellence...I see you introduced some Chevy parts to the project already adding to the ambience of Hotrod and go fast...:)

Stogy is far more a helper than a taker and normally if he posts something I don't have to go spend time reseaching to see if it is correct as he has already done his homework.
That said, never ***UME that you know or remember the answer and go check your facts before you post when someone asks a question unless you are the Forum expert on that specific subject. Meaning, if Moriarity posts something on an old 50's custom I am not even going to take the time to go research as he has already done his research.

A Lot of Good Men Here. I appreciate the HAMB in general, I enjoy reading men's stories about their adventures, sharing mine in our hobby as that's the common thread, we are all Car Nuts, a great hobby/p***ion/obsession in our lives, IMO the level of intensity changes, relates to where/what time frame you're at in your life. I've made some friends here that I enjoy sharing with, I do read the tech section, only asked one question and Squirrel had the answer, he has answered many questions for many here, a very smart man with common sense. I've enjoyed the thinking /learning/problem solving involved, and I can hear my Dad saying "Figure it Out " I remember my first trip to Back to the Fifty's, WOW ! I did not know the depth and numbers to our hobby, it was an eye opener. My life was racing, I grew up in it, started my business, total obsession for the first years and a big part of my life till my retirement. Hot rods/car hobby came back into my life after racing into my 40's, changed my life for the positive big time. Bob Klessig ? put me onto the Hamb back in the day, I enjoyed him, nice man. HAMB is the only web site I've stayed with long term. AM coffee, the HAMB, Life is good ! Everyone, Have a Great Day !

Man, I don’t even know where to start. After 20 years, I have met SO many great HAMBers from all over the world. I’ll have to think about this one a bit.

  19. I just went through my old messages, and found a whole bunch where there were offers of help, information, parts, freight, etc. from HAMBers all over the world. There are a few where I have been helped directly, and a few which I have helped with, but over time have lost contact with, and I hope that they (and their cars of course) are all doing well .

@gary terhaar introduced me to the HAMB in 2008. But 12 years before that, he gave me a glimpse of the magical world of machining and welding. We were both mechanics at the local jeep dealership and one day he asked me if I was interested in doing side work. I went to his house after work and pulled out a transmission on an ot car that was missing a few teeth on the flywheel. I pulled out the torque converter and expected to go home and finish the job at a later date. He told me to bring it over to the bench and proceeded to build up the missing teeth with his TIG welder. After a little grinding and a quick inspection with his eye gage, I reinstalled the torque converter and cranked the engine with the coil unplugged. It sounded cherry, like it did from the factory. He paid me and I went home amazed. Long story short, I joined the military and trained as an airframe metal fabricator, then 8 years later I retrained in machining and welding. It was something that was missing from my life and that night altered the course of my career forever. I am forever grateful to him for his mentorship and generosity and I miss him dearly. I keep close with his family and have gotten very close with his son, who is a true hotrodder just like his dad. Rest in peace my brother. Gary Terhaar RIP 6 AUG 21.

Besides that, I have had many interactions with many hambers and every one of them has been positive. Thank you all.

It must be said as others have, that yes, there has been an ongoing wave of Hamber's parting whether it be leaving for the big sky or otherwise, many are missed...because they were good people.... At least I was able in many cases to have time to chat with them and share knowledge or otherwise. It's great to see others having good karma which again is generally the norm...keep on keepen on Y'all...

I've been very lucky to have met some really cool people over the last 19 years. For this particular thread, I would have to step up and thank @Moriarity . I had been trying to score a Weiand W4cd Manifold for probably 10 years . Always a day or dollar short but never scored. Out of nowhere, Mark sends me a DM and says he has one complete and would be willing to part with it. I think I hit my PayPal within 3 minutes. It had been in one of his display cases and was perfect and complete. Without him, I wouldnt be enjoying this

The late @Hamtown Al (RIP) for several reasons, but mostly for convincing me to join the HAMB after 20 years of me just lurking...not sure how many HAMBers are all that happy about Al's responsibility for me joining though...
