does the engine have compression? is the floor mostly there? does the bed still have wood in it? if so i'd rebuild the brakes, tune up the engine and drive it.if not, tear it down and have at it-george

  4. You really want an opinion? I'll give ya an opinion alright!
From the sound of it, you're not really jazzed about this little chevy p.u...... Back away from the pickup and slowly walk away. Here's why:
If I buy a project without being "on fire" about it, I'll get tired of it real fast. I'll start making up excuses to not work on it. I'll resent it for taking all my extra money. I'll grow to dislike it and will never finish it. Why should I? It's no fun for me and this car hobby is all about fun in my book.
No, wait till you find that project you've always wanted. The one you've already built in your head a thousand times. Then, you won't have to axe us how to proceed: you'll already know. I tell you this from personal experience. I'm trying to save you from fights with yourself and your significant other, not to mention your landlord.
What is it you've been waiting to find? A 40 ford coupe? A 32 roadster? What lights your fire? THAT'S what you should be looking/saving for... good luck

Buy a Ford! The world (even Europe) does not need another ugly Chevy pickup rolling down the road.....maybe in Norway. Build what you like and have fun........life is too short to compramise!

    Hubbcat,
i don't have any build up pics, but it's been in R/C many times. They did a story on it not to long ago showing build up pics from 'back in the day'.
The pics they used were basically after many of the mods were done, but it can give you some ideas.

I've alway's liked those trucks. The dream truck to me was wild! Chopped, sectioned, and channeled on i think it was a '41 chevy chassis.
even something close to it would be bitchin in my oppinion..

Also, 'So what' (Clark) has a '52 thats bad ass, and there's maybe 3 or 4 more that they build that are equaly killer.
He can deffinatly give you some ideas.

At least now when you drive a Volvo, you can rest easy knowing that you are driving a Ford! My father drove a '53 GMC when I was a kid. Big six with a hyromatic. They sure have nice roomy cabs, not like my little old Ford. They can also be fitted supersize motors with very little trouble. How do you afford to drive these things over there? My cousins were always complaining about the cost of fuel in Malmo when the visited. They felt that fuel was almost free in the US.

If that is your current transportation I'd say you are a hard worker. There's NOTHING wrong with that. Turn your obvious talent and work ethic loose on that PU and you'll have a winner. There has beena ton of that style PU done so you shouldn't have a lot of trouble coming up with some prime examples.

For that picture, I also sectioned the cab and hood a little and lowered the truck, in addition to shortening the frame and the bed somewhat.

    The top remains unchopped, though!

Add some nice paint in the color of your choice, and it'd be a rockin' peekup!! [IMG]

I just cut the photo and moved the top of the cab and hood down a little till I thought it looked right. I'd guess it was between maybe 4 and 8 inches on the "actual" truck.

I always thought that most pickup cabs were too tall, but just chopping the top doesn't usually give it the "right" proportions, either. I prefer sectioned but NOT chopped for most fat fendered pickups, myself.

Not the easiest task to pull of on a REAL vehicle, but I think the results are superior if you have the skills and the resources to do it right!!
