"New" Daily Driver Pickup "Project"

So…question for you guys. I’m debating back and forth on white letter tires vs. blackwalls. Curious what you guys might do. I haven’t had white letters since about the time this truck was new but am considering.

 

What wheels are you going with, and which lettered tires are you considering? You other truck looked good with blackwalls. There is a reason you are hesitant.

 

I would go with white letter tires

Slots and either BFG, Cooper, or MT. I don’t want any Chinese sounding names on my tires.

 

I still vote blackwall - not so busy looking.You keep them clean, they look great, remember it’s a truck and you live in Oklahoma. Next question- big and littles, or all one size -so you can rotate…

 

I stumbled onto the sealant while I was doing some shop clean up...

 

I think RWL BFGs on slotted dish wheels is a good combo for that vintage of truck.

 

Two different sizes so I will have good clearance in the front but try to fill the wheel wells better in back. No rotating on this one.

 

Lumpy is in my camp.

 

That's lame, the difference in the styles of Jeff's 'white' pickup and Lumpy's 'green' pickup open it up to going with what looks right on each one different!

 

With your wheels id go black walls since they're polished. If they were as cast or brushed I'd do letters

 

I should know better than to ask for opinions here. But, I guess you all will just have to wait and see where it ends up maybe this week.

 

To the Lumpy pickup thoughts, every 67-72 I have owned was black wall as well. I’m just feeling the era and style of this truck can look good either way.

 

BFG white letter will look right at home….

 

I bought these for the Dart, tread pattern looks more like old BFGs than BFGs do, and no ugly striation pattern on the sidewalls. Intent was to put them RWL out, since it's a small solid letter, but I just couldn't bring myself to put Maxgrip Gripmaxs (or is it Gripmax Maxgrips?) letter out after all! They seem good tho.

 

Don’t listen to me, I would be tempted to look into converting it to single headlights. I am sure it will look good regardless- stance and wheels make the look.

 

BLACKWALL tires, it's not the 70's & 80's any more,. .go simple....that's a clean lookin truck.,
keep it clean.

When you drive with lettered tires it looks like you got crummy whitewalls.

 

BFG RWL all the way! M/T are made by Hoosier tire in Plymouth Indiana. They don’t seem to stay round or balanced. I’ve got friends that work there.

No debate, white letters. Discussion over.

 

Raised white letter tires, and grow a mullet.

 

Food for thought If you get BFG Radial T/A's...

I bought new Radial T/A's about 3 years ago and had the letters turn brown and they were a pain to keep white.

Maybe BFGoodrich fixed the issue?
On my new set I am running black on the outside.

 

I know it’s not a square body but I had U.S.
five slots and BFG/TA’s on my 62 GMC
and I thought it looked good.

 

Yep, that looks good. And, I can still do either Rusty. This was my truck in 1990.

 

Back in the day I ran RWL thought they were cool and maybe they were. Now I run RWL black side out on my late model trucks. Looks better to me. Only you know what look you want.
Oh and either way will be good, your truck will be kick ***.

I had this exact same truck but long bed, lol. And mine was slammed front and back, but had white letter tires on it, slots. I gotta dig up a Pic of that thing....

 

That pic was right after I lowered it. I suppose it was technically the first truck I ever lowered. I was mainly a muscle car guy back then. It ended up lower in the rear later since the stink bug stance was a little much for me. And, yea, we need a pic of yours now as well.
