I've always liked a 56 with a 55 front end. The best of both worlds

In my opinion, a Ford/Mopar guy this is the ultimate 55 Chevy…

It sure is copied alot. It made a profound impact on hot rudders for sure. The car in pcture was a clone of TLB. Richard actually hlped the guy on the left get it righg. img_1_1739892351695.jpg

I haven’t seen one clone that has the primer correct. The original had about a week’s worth of time spent on it to age the primer with streaks and bloching to make it look like it had aged, this was done for the movie by the guy that built the car. Everyone who copied the car doesn’t do this.

Yep that's right. Richard who is pictured with the car talked about how he originally painted the cars a light blue. Producers wanted a dirty looking primer. He said it kinda pissed him off. I think he said he used thinner to streak the primer.

    Great thread!!!
A couple of observations after pouring over 100s of vintage pictures of Tri-Five racers ( not all ran Gas cl*** some were Altered etc.)
    1. 99% of the cars ( excluding Modified Production racers) had Radius rear wheels, some cut through the side spear, others shaved smooth. Both look great in my opinion.
    2. However only 40-50% of these car had solid front axles, almost half or more ran A arm suspension.

So my question is if you are building an accurate recreation of a "g***er" then why would you go the trouble of whacking the front frame off and installing a straight axle but not radius the wheel wells, to me that looks odd and I can't find any examples of this in the vintage pictures?

In the old days the cars weren't tubbed that much if any at all. Rules allowed up to 2/3ds of the rear tires to stick out beyond the fender, thus way easier to fit big tires with available wheels/offset. Most benefit of putting a strait/beam axle was to clean up the engine compartment/steering, t******* the front cross member for engine/header room, not many, if any actually cut the frame off back then. I think most that kept the A arm suspension probably didn't use much engine set back and the skill level wasn't there like in Ruth's car.
