Hey y'all, thought I'd start a little project thread. Just getting started on the body, ch***is has been boxed and stepped (Tardel step), 1in drop front crossmember swapped in, frame was twisted so ended up breaking it fully apart squaring it back up before boxing. 750 560 tire combo. US radiators shortened unit originally for a repro 32 shell I was going to cut down but came across an original 29 shell I'll be using. Working on cleaning up the body now so I can drop it down on the frame and start loading it before zapping in the ch***is components that still need welding. Spent the better part of last year either acquiring parts or working on the frame (or reorganizing my tiny shop about 20 times to make room for everything ) built the frame table to do the squaring and boxing. Pretty stoked to be at the stage of stripping rust away from the body. Nothing wild or unique just trying to put another old Ford back on the road, figured I'd start a thread now that I'm beginning to get into more of the fun stuff, looking forward to casting up some little detail oriented parts for it (air cleaner's, license plate topper/light, headlight buckets, steering wheel, pedals, shift knob etc, been 3d modeling parts to cast for it for a while, gonna be fun to finally get a few of those move to the top of my projects list and knock out.
Thanks y'all, been collecting bits and pieces trying to get a good pile of parts to work with, its got some rust repair to be done for sure and a few dings and dents here and there, but all and all it's pretty solid, so hoping it goes together quick-ish
Weeeellllll it may ruffle a few feathers lol. But.. a sbc 350(I know I know I know..) but its being dressed up kinda 60's era, unvented covers (though they will have some vents just hidden in the back), camel hump heads, tri power Rochester 2G carb set up, etc basically going for early hotrod gets a corvette (ish I mean a 427 would have been rad) motor swap in the 60's, with a saginaw 4 speed behind it, rear end is a bop 10 bolt, may end up running some rams horn's I've got a nice set I originally planned for it, or might end up fabricating some lakes headers and doing the baffle insert into the header not sure yet, still working that out.
January 1955 Hot Rod Magazine…when the SBC first started its popularity run…over 70 freaking years ago!
No shame in that, In Australia we had alot of Y-blocks & Holden (GM) 6's (& Flatty's of course) in our early hot rods as we didn't have as many sbc's out here for a while after.
Yea they are pretty plentiful here (sbc's) that was the main reason for it just easy to find parts and replacement parts have such a plentiful availability really, I've got a 30 model coupe that will eventually get a sbf 302 for the same reason. That said I've got a 65 f100 that still has the 300i6 just because I started out with it and had something to build from so kept it original.
