So, if you didn’t have hot rods or customs, what would you do?

I like looking at other people‘s cars and stuff. I was never very good at building things.

While I could never give up cars of any kind, but if I didnt get bit by this bug, the model train bug would have been next and probably volunteering and working on steam engines.

Mostly stuff I enjoyed as a kid, which have become hobbies as an adult. Bought this ‘01 Yamaha Warrior about 18 months ago and fixed it up. I like to get out in the woods and cruise. Best part is I made friends with a couple of the neighborhood kids who ride dirtbikes. They're way into my cars, so that's a plus. P***ing the torch any way I can.

I also enjoy buying and restoring RC cars/trucks and BMX bikes. These are all models I had as a kid that I’ve bought again as an adult to fix up and mostly just look at, hahaha

I used to restore vintage outboards 20211201_203234.jpg 20211114_093924.jpg 20211104_165456.jpg too.... Forgot about that, haven't done one in a while.

Off Roading, it's what I have been doing while the 59 sits in my shop. It satisfies my need to modify vehicles and combines my love of camping. Got tired of hanging out in parking lots, rather hang out in the woods.

Man you ****ed me up with that question. I've been thinking on it for a couple days now...
Im not sure what the heck would take the place. Old cars have been a constant in my life for so long.
They provide a social outlet, a place to work with my hands, a creative outlet & something to day dream about while Im working on other not so enjoyable projects.
We've already got a boat, but its just a family cruiser, not great for water sports & Im not much for fishing either.
Ive been riding dirt bike trails & love being in the woods, camping & offroading. Got a side by side & its was promptly totalled by my Mom in a pretty nasty accident & so we haven't replaced that just yet.
Im a project driven dude so I reckon I'll find something to keep me busy, but I plan to at least have a driver & a project car until I kick the bucket.

If I didn't have my cars I would have been able to get my 1958 model 30 AJS 600cc vertical twin motorcycle restored and had money left over to do some woodworking to satisfy my creative side.

I consider myself to be more of an "idea" guy these days. In my lifetime, I have had many hobbies, interests, projects and travel adventures. I consider myself to be well rounded. To be honest, the old car infatuation was/is always just one of my primary interests. I just finished building a poker table this week just on a whim and next week it could be whatever comes to mind next. My motto these days..."flexable and no deadlines". It's just such a great thing to wake up each day and do whatever makes you happy.

Oh yeah, that Viking thing came to mind a few times. I was thinking how cremation is becoming more prevelant these days, I could build a Viking ship (like that ship in Vegas that sunk several times a day) put it in the pond and shoot flaming arrows at it. Who wouldn't want a Viking funeral?

I'd probably want to be the leader of a religious cult. Good work if you can get it.

If I gave up hot rod I would have to buy a whole new wardrobe, without car tee shirts.

I now have OT hobby cars, I still can cruise, attend most shows so I haven't given up on the Hobby, I miss my HAMB cars some but now the comfort cruising works for me. If I totally left the car hobby, It's been my interest in some form my entire life, Thinking that would mean my expiration date arrived. Now 78, we are dealing with the age, health BS that catches up with everybody, looking forward to spring, summer, fall, winter not so much anymore.

What a tough question. What ever I did it would involve a gas engine for sure. Tractors, stationary engines, etc. And I would probably drink one heck of a lot more.

I can't come up with anything that doesn't involve machinery or prime movers, aside from model railroads maybe. To paraphrase the movie "The Man who would be King", (not sure if it was Connery or Caine), who said "Saved! by the ****** craft!"

Having to give up the car hobby, I would be a grumpy, ill tempered, cantankerous Old Fart! HRP

Whoa, I also have, and have collected vintage outboards for probably 50 years. Only have a few left, but at one time had maybe 30? I have owned some of the holy grail outboards, like aWaterman Porto, that I picked up at an antique engine show for $125, and traded for a Clarke Troller in great condition. Sold the Clarke for $2.5k a few years later when I was heading to the Caribbean on a cruise… wish I would’ve kept that one…

Boats. I’ve spent more time and money fixing and restoring boats than any car projects ever.. the sad thing is one of them I simply had to give up on due to a logistical issue with finishing it as I wasn’t able to keep it local.. but I just bought another to replace it. It’s lake ready as is however

If I couldn't build hot rods and customs, I'd be modifying modern cars and still restore old ones too.

  26. I have always fiddled around with electronics, building test, auto and audio equipment, and doing lots of pointless repairs of stuff that I come across in my travels (You fix it, then you have to work out what to do with it). I would probably have a nice clean electronics workshop, and a lot nicer looking hands, so this would be my full-time hobby. Or I would go back to being a stripper.

Volunteer at the nearest railway museum to work on one of these, spend even more time living the healthy life (yes, I'm at the age where you can't neglect your body anymore)...
