Just put black wall on one side raised white letter on the other, you'll be half right with your decision when you see it.

Then it could also match my 51 Ford with different wheelcovers on each side.

Sorry man, that white truck needs the black wall tires, there is already way too much going on there.

I have also heard of the BFG white letter tires turning brown, and being very hard to keep the letters white.
In my book, that would be 2 strikes, but you know what the value of opinions are.

Last set of white letter tires I put on my c10 were Mastercraft “Avenger G/T”. They have a nice size letter, were a bit less money than the BFG’s, and I didn’t have problems with the letters turning brown like the BFG’s did. Also as much as I like Cooper tires I couldn’t bring myself to put anything that says “Cobra” on my Chevy truck..

Well, I ordered some BFG’s right or wrong. I did some reading and seems that maybe the brown letters were limited to a batch a few years back. I guess I’ll find out. Anyway, also back working on it this evening finally. Got the intake back on and working on ****oning things up to where I can make the thing run. At least now I have more faith that the intake won’t leak.

You spent way more time detailing things than I am. I honestly wish that the previous owner would have at least washed out the engine compartment during the motor swap. But, I am also just trying to keep focused on this just being a daily driver that I never plan to open the hood on other than for very infrequent maintenance or repairs. :D

  10. Yeah, he wanted me to build something he could take to the cruises/ shows & be able to open the hood. I ended up rebuilding this engine, painting the truck, etc, etc. Every time I would not want to make something better on it, I would get the "Stink Eye" from my then Wife. I got that stink eye a lot back then, so I no longer have that Wife! :p

Honestly I posted that picture just in case you were scratching your head on a placement of something. I often find myself looking at old pictures for info since I build so many different makes.

    Here is the other side.

    God Bless

I watched it last night. Looks like "Oklahoma Speed and Custom" Charlie actually bought the vintage Ford stuff.

That place was sketch! What an adventure.

That is honestly helpful. These are the two brackets I am missing for my A/C compressor. I need to go to a buddy of mine's salvage and see if he has them. At minimum, I need to go get a one piece rear window from him. I'm not a fan of the slider and he thinks he has a couple.

Yea, as mentioned, pretty sure I wasn't meant to have to deal with all of it. I didn't watch the whole video, but the "phantom bids" mentioned were because there were two different folks trying to sell the stuff. Before the fire, there was a lady that had an agreement to sell everything. After the fire, the demolition guy talked the owners into that and ultimately got the contract. So, that knocked me out of the deal. Pretty sure the price paid for all the old stuff was the same as what I had offered which was a decent price but also required a lot of work as seen in the video.

  14. Jeff,

Let me know if you get the brackets you need! If not I will head upstairs & check what I got. I hate A C & took it off my 1 ton square body, so they might be up there.

More progress this evening, but seems I have more wires than I have things to plug them into…. I think I need to find a wiring diagram since some of the wires have also been cut. :( Anyway, little by little. Hopefully my tires will show up in the next day or so as well.

Woohoo! Just got a call that my tires came in at the tire shop! Planning to go get them mounted this afternoon and will be excited to see them on the truck soon!

    A couple of thoughts....

Back in the stone age I used to mess with those old trucks a lot and several times I had to make those brackets you're missing. All they are is a rod with flat ends and bolt holes. Super simple for a guy with your skills. I always just used 1/2" round rod and heated the ends and beat them flat on an anvil and drilled holes in the flats. A little tweak here and there to make them line up. By the time I cleaned them and painted they looked exactly like the GM brackets would have.

Your power brake vacuum should hook up to that plugged port on the driver side of the intake in front of the throttle body. GM used a real nice metal line and fitting that screwed into the intake and ran backwards along the driver side valve cover to the back of the engine so you used a little short piece of hose to connect the booster. The same line was used on all 87-95 small block applications so they're easy to find if needed.

THANK YOU! That is excellent information and I appreciate you taking the time to post it. Not sure why I had not thought of making that bracket, but will likely do so now. I didn’t mention it here, but pretty sure I figured out that is the only one I am missing. And, I haven’t gotten to the brake booster plumbing yet other than to notice that I still needed to figure out where it goes.

Well, sorry for those that voted blackwalls. Decided to take a risk and put white letters out for the first time in the last 30 years or so. If they turn brown or I change my mind, I’ll flip them around later. I like it, but came across a small issue once I tried to roll it back and forth to make sure the front settled out…. Looks like stick on weights only. Oh well, easy fix at least. Where it is sitting now, it has right at an inch forward rake which seems about right to me. If it comes down a tad more in the front, that will be ok too.

Thanks guys. I’m getting anxious to drive it now. That’s why I bought the tires to get motivated to finish up the work that isn’t as fun.

You do realize, that just old enough, “87” is 40 next year right? It’s now a cl***ic!
And so are we! They call 80’s music oldies now for crying out loud! I “almost” graduated in 1987! Lol! Went back a few years later, and got my GED.
