Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Chris Casny, Nov 10, 2006.

  1. no , i don't plan to quit driving. here in minnesota we have had i believe 15% ethanol for years , soon to go to 20%

i just think the whole thing is a big ripoff so our farmers can sell their corn.

you now how a farmer can double his income? put up TWO mailboxes

Most Farmers I know only make a decent living because of the Government money. If not for the Governments help, they would lose their Farms pretty quickly, and be replaced by large corporate Farms.

I prefer to keep the family owned Farms myself. The tax money used to support Farmers, in my opinion, is far better spent than the untold billions they have poured into Iraq.

Same goes for the ethanol... I would rather support Farmers and give them a profitable market for their Corn, than continue to support middle eastern countrys that hate everything we stand for.

And last time I looked, octane on pure ethanol was around 114. Since a lot of us are building our own engines anyway, the higher octane should be something worth taking advantage of. Less fuel efficiency? Whoopity-****... My F-100 gets about 8 mpg as it is. Fuel efficiency wasn't what I was thinking about when I built it...

Damn can't anyone use the search function?

It's all been covered right here a few times...

Increase jetting, retard timing. Most stuff built in the last 15 years will hold up to ethanol fine... It's in your gas right now anyway...

The majority of negative press it gets is FUD pure and simple. The big oil companies don't want you to think about alternative fuels at all....

As a farmer's son I was very interested in ethanol as a fuel back in the 70's and did some research.

What it boils down to( pun intended:rolleyes: ) is the cost of the heat to distill the alcohol.

Right now it costs too much so it isn't compe***ive.

Brazil does well because they use sugar cane to make their ethanol -- the sugar ferments and the dried cane pulp is burned to heat the still.

Using corn as the sugar source the by-product is a good animal feed so we don't have the heat source.

If you want something that will hlep the farmers and fuel our vehicles look into ''BioDiesel" from soybeans, etc.

If a 7000+ lb truck can run in the 12's on diesel who knows what is possible with a rod?

  7. good article on Ethonal carb conversion in Mopar Action this month called Boozer carb. It is on the Carter thermo quad so all other carbs will be easier since that is one of the most complicated carbs ever in production.
