I need to know who is the best for having a Rochester 4GC carb race prepped. I usually do my own but I need know all I can and place find such hardware. ( specifically from 55-58 ish) As always Squirrel you are up.
KI3 - thank you ! However, I no longer do rebuilds due to the popularity of our rebuilding kits and the manufacture of them. I can provide (probably) the parts that will be needed, and possibly technical ***istance should Mitchell Rish wish to do the build himself. Jon
How much of learning curve to race tune. That and time will be the determining factor.Holleys /eld-carter/and even the Q jet I do very well with. I simply don’t have the knowledge of /or have all the little tricks/etc. Is there such a book /manual? I don’t mind paying at all. I simply have never used one of these other than stock form.
"Race tune" doesn't tell the story. Drag racing, circle track racing, road racing, land speed racing ? Carburetor being used ? Sanctioning body rules ? Engine size, max RPM, RPM range being used, vacuum at idle ? Basically standard questions regardless of carb being used. Give me a call during normal business hours. Jon
I've run 220/283 4 speed for a long time, set National records multiple times in O and P,,,won cl*** every National Event I went to, including cl*** wins at Indy multiple times, It's not cause I'm smart, I'ts cause I've been blessed to have really good people helping me, the credit goes to them, I will say, as far as 4GC's, stock and super stock, Dean Oliver from Stuttgart Arkansas is the go to guy for NHRA racers. Deano's Carbs are consistently the fastest carbs in the cl*** racers group. And, Dean is one hell of a guy, drag races himself, a K/SA Malibu. Hes fantastic at Q Jets too. Again, I cant tell you how many really good people helped me on my car. I'm building a 61 215/283 stocker right now, its the small carb like your car would need I think, all the X frame guys I know with that little carb use him also. Interested in what your building, sounds fun. Good luck.
Jr Stock. I am doing inventory on everything that came with this car. It runs well now. I am simply trying to increase my knowledge of this carb past basics. The Road trip I took to Texas was to pick it up. I am amazed at just how well a factory iron intake and this carb seem to respond. Let me get through this inventory and I’ll get ready for the learning curve. Thanks for the references and sources. I ***ure you I’ll use them. Jon give me a little time. I’ll contact you. I won a learn /understand all I can about these. Mitch
I like being as self sufficient as I can but again other than a stock version I’ve never used one of these carbs. I am impressed though with the crispness and response of the carb Tim put on it. Time to increase the learning curve again
What is the best 4GC/4jet for performance? I have a box full I have collected including one off a 1963 401 Buick.
